Hi Brian, I've just replaced a damaged quarter panel on my car, I've followed all your tips on spraying white pearl, blending and gun set up for factory finish. I used my fuji hvlp and the 1.0mm nozzle for the clear coat. I got an orange peel finish, so I rubbed the surface down with wet 1000 grit, then sprayed again today with an increase in thinners from 10 percent to 30 percent. What a difference! I got a perfect smooth factory finish! Couldn't be happier! Thank you for all you invaluable advice, sometimes you just have to stick at it to see it through to a good job 😊

True wisdom at the end, I wasted way too much time stressing over little paint problems that were easy to fix and the majority of customers wouldn't even care about. Sikkens is also a great product line, I recently went to cromax water-base at my shop because of the crazy voc regulations here in CA but would happily use Sikkens, have an awesome weekend:)

Another great video. I’m not the tallest guy myself can only reach so far without leaning into the fenders when spraying the hood. I take 2inch tape and wrap it around the front of my suit keeps the loose fabric in the right places. Who cares the look whatever it takes. When I’m spraying a hood and blending the top of the fenders I lay paper over the tops of the fenders until I get coverage on the hood. Pull the paper then do my dusting on the tops of the fenders. Great adjustment on the base guys cringe when it comes to pearl white. Gotta get the base right the pearls just an effect. I got my own shop been painting for 20 years still watching videos and learning. That’s what’s it’s all about always trying to improve your skill set.

Only thing that gets you there is time unfortunately. The colour wheel is your best friend when tinting. I hate tinting lmao
@bodyshopsolutions695 Жыл бұрын
Also good tinting advice in my opinion is to start tinting with the colors that are in the formula.. using the color wheel to decide which colors within the formula to help you achieve the needs at hand.. very rarely do you need to go outside the the colors that are already within the mix

Those ecoat parts from tesla are as raw as they come right off the Conveyor system. The ecoat has drips and imperfections that need to be sanded off before going into the booth so don't feel too bad about receiving an imperfect ecoat hood. Also, fun little fact, model S and model X (some white and red model Y as well) use a wet on wet Solvent based paint system by Axalta. You can spray the base, mid, and clear coat without having to wait minutes between coats but you do need heat to dry it as it won't air dry like with water based paint. Otherwise, you'd have wet/tacky paint for days or weeks. PPSW is a pain to match especially of you're doing spot repairs on a large flat panel.

Great advice Brian. I used to yell and scream in my respirator just about every time I painted but it never helped. My last paint job was a front clip I thought I could spray in the early morning calm of the high desert here in Idaho. Just as I started the last coat a rogue rain cloud came over and destroyed it! Instead of getting angry I designed and built a wall in my garage that keeps the dust and dirt out of the rest of the garage and doubles as a paint booth. Gotta turn those mistakes into a positive experience!

Speaking of painting a Tesla, or any car in general; how long would you wait after the paint is dry to wash and also, to wax? My old man was told by the car dealership about 10 years ago after he needed paint work to wait a month before waxing. Is that true?
@joshhanrahan6704 Жыл бұрын
Yes. The solvents are still gassing out and if you were to apply a wax or ceramic you could definitely run into issues. There are breathable paint sealants (Wizards works great) that you can use that still allow the paint enough time to fully cure.

Imposible that the first time to get familiar with the car on how the paint will be sprayed is when painting since you already sprayed primer. You already know after the primer how far you are going to reach and if you need a booster step or also after spraying primer you can decide if it’s better to change you spraying approach IE change from push to pull or viceversa.
