Car review in a few | Vauxhall Astra 2018

I've got a 1.6 T turbo and for a mid range performance car, it flies. Power (200hp) is instantaneous from 2000 rpm. No other car in the class has this performance for the price. Go for the 1.6T manual if you want to have a fun and reliable everyday car.

Enjoyed the review as always Mark. Getting an Astra 1.4 Turbo in the new year to replace an ageing Focus, will post first thoughts later. I’m still not convinced by Korean cars, the cost of parts and servicing on a Kia I previously owned was high and I believe it is still the same now..

Astra has better tech with OnStar standard on most trims and Apple CarPlay standard on all. Both massive wins for this segment.

Just to let you know, per www.onstareurope.com/. both Vauxhall and Opel have been sold to Groupe PSA. So the French will take over service of the vehicles. Worse, OnStar service in Europe will end 31 December 2020. In less than 2 years, all the OnStar buttons, bells and whistles will be dead weight. If you currently have an OnStar subscription, cancel it now and avoid the rush....

Don't buy a Vauxhall for on star. It is being phased out. It is a GM product and Vauxhall are now owned by the French so no rights to use on star.

Vauxhall is part of the PSA Peugeot Citroen group, and OnStar is a General Motors creation, Vauxhall will be dropping OnStar from its model ranges from January 2019, and the system will switch off completely in 2020.

You seem to be leaving out the Mazda 3 out of all hatchback comparisons/reviews - why is that so? It’s apparently the best to drive, i.e. most sporty of the non-sporty variants of all hatchbacks. Comments?

My friend has one and I loved it but I'm beginning to really question the build quality it's horrendous it's 2 yrs old and the roofline and dashboard rattle alot

I've done 90k on my Astra - 1 rattle and it's from the top of the dash - disappears for a few months I know exactly where it is and can stop it just by touching that spot on the dash. There is nothing loose or aging about my Astra and its the 3rd in the family.

2 year personal lease for 1.6t 200bhp Elite Nav model. £1000 deposit £175 per month. To spec a similar Focus or Golf you’ll add at least another £100 to the monthly lease, and another £1000 on the deposit. As this is the way most people buy new cars these days I’d say the Astra is significantly cheaper to own than its main rivals.

I had an Astra as a hire car the other week and I detested it. I found it uncomfortable, awful to drive and the gearbox was shocking.

I like the looks of this car but probably would never buy it. I totally agree with the fact that brand new Astra's feel like they already have done 100 000 miles and from experience reliability isn't usually great. The i30 and the Pug 308 are more appealing.

I have a 15 gtc and was given one of these a 1.4t petrol, was ok, what wasn't was the handling. I thought they were going to use the GTC set up for the new 5 door. Stick the nicer be inside in a car that handles like the GTC and the Astra would be great.
