CAR REVIEW - Nissan Micra K12 1.2

My first car was a K12. Had it for 5 years. Great car. The design was actually for the Fiat 500, but Fiat rejected it. They have lots of headroom in the front as it was primarily designed for the Indian market and many customers would need the turban room. Nice video. 👍

Funny you should mention that. Apparently the design of the Daewoo Matiz was also a rejected design for a replacement fiat 500! Personally I think the Micra is a much smarter looking car.

There's no such turban issue dude. Indians have very low AVG height. The micra just has a nice shape that can accommodate even 6ft ppl comfortably. And btw only the k13 was sold in India

My car is the 1.5 diesel and i find it great to drive and lots of fun. Have had mine for about 13 years. Find it very flexible. Will do most of what I ask it to do.

They are a great car. I never drove a diesel one, but I'd say they'd run all day on the smell of an oily rag.

Love my little 1.4 SE, don't have a lot of money and inherited mine when my uncle passed away, great little car and enough space to fit my wife a 3 kids in, funny how some people think they need massive 4x4s and people carriers when they have a couple of kids! I even recently moved all our belongings to a new house in just this car (30 odd miles away), took a few journeys, but it was so economical on fuel it only cost around £50 rather than the 300+ for a removal van.

They are fantastic cars. Personally I would like a slightly bigger car for kids. I have a 2 year old and my daily is a Toyota auris.

My partner has her Micra 1.2 from new. It's a 2003 with 59k went to Ireland from Dublin down to Waterville Kerry. The roads were very good and unlike here.

I have a nissan micra k14 it's very nice and very nippy I have a 1.5 dci diesel I never had issues with it very reliable and good looking it's a tekna and colour is orange.

I have the same one in silver, absolutely adore it. Its cheap to run, reliable and pretty cute. And Im a pretty tall guy, yet have plenty of head clearance which is uncommon for such small cars. May our Micras have a long life :D

Cant wait to race my micra! For some reason ive read many posts and seen many videos that these cars are just stupidly well made, im soon gonna proove it myself hopefully! If I reccomended any other first car to start it is this!

Cracking video, I had a one of the first K12's with a 1.0 engine, I liked it when it worked but compared to my K11 it felt a much bigger car and more grown up. My dad had a k13 but it never sold on me. I know that Arnold Clark imported the Tilda from Ireland to sell when there was no Almera. Indicator noise is the same as in my Qashqai!

Yeah you're absolutely right about them being that much bigger. They did need that 1.2 engine though in my mind. The 1l was a bit gutless. I've never driven a k13 actually. They dropped them pretty sharpish!

I've heard that classic mini folks sometimes drop these 1.2's into their minis for a performance boost! Small, economical, lightweight(compared to the cast-iron A-series in the mini) and 5-speed, which makes the mini a nice motorrway car then. Perhaps I can shoehorn one of these setups into one of my Austin 1100 cars? ;)

It'd be a tricky build for not a great deal of extra power in a mini. I'd sooner go down the route of modifying the original A series. They're a very good engine and there are plenty of options for modifying. Minifix in Dublin have a 1380cc supercharged one which is an absolute beast!

Do anyone know how to check the coolent temperature my one 2004 don't have a gauge on it..and can I check how many L/100 km it uses

It will only tell you if the engine is cold or overheating. The theory being that in any other case you don't need to know. If you get a bluetooth OBD reader, you can get a readout on your phone though. Not sure about the fuel consumption, but there's ways of doing that anyway.

Great review! You couldn't of described the K12 Micra 1.2 any better! I have a 1.2 SE that I picked up for £200 and use it as a second car just to run back and forth to work, and funnily enough, I work at a Nissan dealer too 😉 You actually forget about how odd looking they are when you are behind the wheel because you are having so much fun! 😁

great review. I agree it is a great little car and the 1.2 is very reliable. I had the K11 with a 1 litre March with cvt it is the electrical that failed first, with the tail light's bulb having to be replaced every two days. I would not like to buy your K12 though, the way you rev it and drive it means it will wear faster than one driven by a granny ...eheheh just kidding, I know you give it the italian tuning as you said.....

im driving a 2004 micra 78 thousand miles going very well but this past while its got really noisy to drive i think it coming from engine any idea ,could it be one of cyclinder .

They're both good cars to be honest. I don't think you would be going wrong with either. If I had to choose, I'd probably go for the Yaris though cause it's not as peculiar looking.

80hp, and you could expect anywhere between 5 and 6 l/100km (upwards of 50mpg), depending on how you drive it of course.
