The big wild north… where adventure and danger await!
Synopsis:
A young boy goes on a weekend camping excursion. His cheerful uncle and aunt try to lift up his spirits, as the boy grieves and recuperates after a horrific accident.
The wilderness of the north, though, has its own secrets and dangers. What is meant to be a weekend diversion turns into an adventure worthy of a child’s imagination.

Car scene is always a challenge. There are so many variables that are not so easy to control. I have found out that really good planning helps to save some time and energy. If I'll shoot a car scene I want to figure out all the possible details before hand in order to minimize the need to improvise on set.

Quick tip - mounting suction cups on windscreen or especially outside the car, make sure you clean the area first. Even something as simple as domestic window cleaner and clean microfiber cloths would do the job. Otherwise you risk 2 things. One is scratching the car paint or other surface you have your rig mounted and two is losing your rig and looking at it rolling down the road at speed.

Hey Tom, I used the glide gear frog mount with 3 double jointed articulating arms for my 7D. (Both as a side mount and on the hood.). I used a camera strap as a safety harness which I tied to the side mirror or windshield...no problems

In the green screen car interior at 00:55, the reflection in the exterior rear view mirror is incorrect. Since it is a mirror, the background (trees, houses, etc) should be moving in the opposite direction.

Excellent, I've been doing some car mounted shots (I lost a GH3 with a Voigtlander 17mm attached) with a commercial suction solution - so I made my own more versatile solution from the hardware store. I lost faith in some of the specialist equipment.

Hey Tom! I've been wanting to try and shoot a car scene for a while and the best solution I've seen is the magnetic car mounts from rig wheels. You can also take off the magnets and put on suction cups or slider wheels for a pvc slider. I am interested in the high hat thing you had I one of the shots to elevate the camera, what's it called?

Another nice tutorial, thnx! At some point you discuss if it's road legal. Here in the Netherlands (and perhaps all of Europe) it's not legal to mount objects that could hurt pedestrians. For instance those racey rear spoilers with sharp edges. It could be that camera mounts, or even a GoPro, are not legal on public roads. At least I would check it where you film. Just my $0,02 ;-) Thanks again and keep up the good work!!
@TomAntos
@TomAntos 9 жыл бұрын
Arjen Jongeling Yup I've never shot in Europe so I can't say, but in the US and Canada it's legal. Again if you are driving around with it fast and dangerous then you will for sure get stopped and then this might cost you extra fines. I've seen production photos of people driving similar rigs like this in Europe, and Im guessing they drive slow and safe like I did in my video, and why police doesn't have a problem with it.
