Car Seat Hacks: Double Seat Back Recline for forward facing car seats installed with seat belt

Is your forward-facing car seat loose with the seat belt? This car seat hack might be just what you've been searching for! If the seat belt buckle is rigid and angled towards the front of the car, it can make it impossible to pull the seat belt tight - as the belt scrunches in the tongue and prevents you from tightening it. By reclining both the car seat and the vehicle seat during the installation process and then sitting both back upright later on as you'll see in this video, you can often get a tight installation where it otherwise seemed impossible. To do the hack shown in this video you'll need an SUV or minivan with a vehicle seat back that reclines.

Thank you this helped me tighten down my forward facing car seat using the seatbelt. It was much easier with the latch system but the kids just passed the lower latch weight limit, I couldnt get the seatbelt anywhere close to tight enough. This saved me time and many F bombs!

Are you allowed to angle the car seat more, where the bottom part no longer is flat against the seat? I saw a video that showed you can do this but add a towel between the space if it no longer touches, but everywhere else I always see it flat.

On a forward-facing car seat you should never add a towel or anything else underneath it. On some rear-facing car seats you can add a towel in the area of the vehicle seat crease to help achieve the proper recline angle.

A booster is by definition a seat where the child sits on it and wears the vehicle's seat belt across them as their restraint. A car seat is by definition a seat where the child uses the car seat's 5 point harness as their restraint. This trick will work for a forward-facing car seat, not a booster seat.

The Pioneer has 2 modes (like many seats) - one is as a car seat, the other is as a booster. In car seat mode this trick can be used. In booster mode this can not be used as the seat belt is going across the child's body as their restraint, not behind the child's back to install the car seat as shown in this video.

I have tried everything possible to get my car seat as tight as I can. It's connected with the latches, the over the seat anchor and the seatbelt. All as tight as possible and it moves around on the seat so much. Idk what to do please help

For rear-facing seats you can use the trick of reclining the back of the vehicle seat and then sitting it upright as the last step of the installation (but leave the rear-facing child's car seat at the recline that it should be post-installation).
