this very thing happened with my first car, i had nearly the amount but needed to finance a little bit ... what he suggested was putting the money back and just add to the monthly payment and make sure it is established for over a year before it is paid off. The money in the savings would be a cushion until he could get it paid down and paid off .. Bryce had a good head on his shoulders and this is awesome to learn about finance. have him set up a amortization table in excel and work toward that - it will visualize the principle / payment of each month and how extra payments work. This will be good practice for bigger loans in the future .. seriously kind of obsessed with the amortization table.

I bought a Kia Sorento recently, and it's very nice. But there are some caveats with Kia - first thing to do is check which plant it was made. It's a HUGE difference. Mexican ones have a LOAD of issues in general. Canada and US not so much, Korean and Japan very very few. Then ask to pop the hood and check the oil level. The lemons burn oil, so be ware if the level is low.

I had a 2014 Kia soul it was a good reliable car until around 100.000 miles but come to find out the previous owners never kept up with maintenance but I loved it until it just wasn’t working out anymore

Right before I moved away to college, my parent's car which basically became mine broke down. Had to scramble and look for a car for me to buy. SUPER STRESSFUL because I needed it very quick. The amount of Kia Soul's I saw out there was insane. Was not what I was looking for but it seems like a great car. Good to see a car shopping trip that is not stressful at all. Ended up getting a 2014 Dodge Dart and I was in the same boat as Bryce and y'all. Wanted to straight up buy it but ended up having to finance a smaller portion. Hopefully, Bryce enjoys the new whip!

I just got myself a 2015 Kia Optima LX GDI. Kia’s are good, you just have to watch because they do go down in value if the maintenance is not kept up with. I’d stress that to him big time! Maintenance is key for a used car. Anywho, Got it for $6,300, but the tax, title, and license fees made it round up to $7,000. First car in my name. Just turned 21 this past October. It’s a process, but it’s worth it for a good used car! Hoping the process for you guys goes smooth!

Honestly I wouldn’t knock new cars either, if you are going to be forced into a payment. But if you have qualifying credit or a co-signer you can get a new car payment down with a reasonable interest rates a lot of companies offer 0% on 60 months. Plus a car with low miles and a warranty goes a long way especially if parts start to break.

i don't know if this is to late or not but DO NOT get a kia they get stolen constantly very easy to steal they are also built cheap but motor wise they tend to be ok depends on how they are driven & maintained you'd be better off getting something of craigslist or a used site not a dealer & get a honda or toyota or something american but do some research haha

Tiffany had a kia for almost 10 years. My sister inlaw has had a Kia for 11. Very little issues. All brands have issues some where. His price range is CHEAP so it's slim pickings. dealer at least has a no lemon law so they can't sell us a turd like someone on craigs list. But we started there, we've been looking. No luck.

From experience: Finance the car, however, finance through a credit union of some sort and have an account just for the vehicle. Yes it may cost a little bit more for financing it, but it builds his credit and sets him up to be financially stable with a credit score. Good luck and safe travels:)

Look into how often those cars are getting stolen, Kias are the top car getting stolen at the moment due to a tik tok trend, if he gets one with a push to start then no worries on it being stolen, if the car has a key slot then most likely will have to worry about it getting stolen

Toyota or Honda under 200k within your budget probably a smarter choice Kia or Hyundai not as reliable and there's the theft issue which might affect insurance if the only choice finance and build credit for Bryce pay it off and trade in as soon as possible what ever choice you are leaning toward take it to a mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection. if pre back up cam mandate cheap carplay and android auto headunit get a camera installed and you can return to stock or leave it depending on the feature of the next vehicle. and he could learn from more knowledgeable family basic car maintenance.

Yeah you can always finance then go make the payment at the bank just make sure they use a credit union that will not penalize you for making early payments so let’s say the car is $12,000 and you only 10,000 finance four 7000 put down 3000 then take 7000 to the bank pay them obviously you’re gonna owe some interest but not a whole lot then you only owe 2000 just make sure they will let you make her early payments
