Jason….I came to you in 2015 when you had the Glen Ellyn location, you detailed, your wife answered calls and kids played in the background. You and your team have grown tremendously with new locations. The question you need to ask yourself, if you had to sell the business, can someone take over easily or be stuck with a lot of projects or non money making side gigs. Don’t spread yourself thin, spend time with your kids, are they interested in the family business and if not, that’s fine. It’s not only about sharing your vision, but empowering your team to want to own a slice of the vision. I look forward to 2024, I’ll have a new car to detail. Happy Holidays Chicago Auto Pros. 😊

As a two-year customer, I’ve never had a bad experience. The managers greet me by name, give me time to point out areas that may need attention, and go over the agreed-upon service(s) and updates throughout the day are welcomed bonus. I do miss the ability to pick up products at the end of service. I’ve never promised the moon and given sand. Here’s to kicking butt in 2024.

I can agree with this. I’ve been with CAP since 2019-ish. I miss picking up products at the two shops. It’s nice to talk to the staff about how to care for my car after it has been detailed and how to keep it looking good and specific products to use. I know people who have gotten a ceramic coating but don’t know how to care for it and products you should or should not use.

Dig this format. Page right out of OG Matty's wash and talks. A comment on the Car Supply Warehouse. I've purchased products from you all before, the problem for me is there are so many products on there I get vapor-locked on what to get if I want to try something new. To me its like a Cheesecake Factory menu, so many pages of items. People being timid about the economy probably doesn't help either with sales.

Great vlog Jason, I’ve been a customer for 4 years and can tell you the main reason is the outstanding customer relations you develop. I discovered you on KZbin and liked the high level of service you provide. Frankly it’s the delivery of that service and most importantly how your staff treat you. Dan is a perfect example, he makes you feel like your car is the most important one you are working on. I really loved you provided a video of you guys working on my car. What ever you do maintain these core standards! I can’t tell you how many people I have recommended to go to Chicago Auto Pros because I feel you are the best.

One tip from a person at a huge military contractor: We have our role, we have our time charging codes. You bill what you do, and nothing else. If you're the boss, you only be the boss now. You're growing a big company, and everyone must stick to their job description if they want to do a good job. The engineers engineer, the detailers detail, the financers finance. We don't have accountants assembling missiles. You know exactly what you need to do, keep doing it.

This entire video made perfect sense! It was almost like watching my internal thoughts. Went through a lot of this in 2020. When I started as a business I was not prepared for the potential that detailing had in it and thus was unprepared for how to handle it. The company I worked for at the time was bought out and my wife and I sat down and agreed it was time I ventured out on my own. Fast forward 6 months, I had more work than I knew what to do with and learned I had terrible time management that was jeopardizing my family. One thing led to the next and I made a rash decision deciding to just go back to work and stop the detailing cold turkey which had an even more negative impact. Now that everything is back in place the wife and I revisited the business idea and are back in only this time being more methodical and strategic. This was a great video Jason, thank you.

First - I appreciate and respect your transparency and including us in your thought process. I, for one, enjoy watching the installers work their magic and explain some of their process with us in videos. Watching them work shows me the quality I can expect when I bring my vehicle to your shop. Their attention to detail is incredible... quick example - shaving the window tint is just that extra step that sets you aside. My local shop laughed when I asked them about that. Always take time for yourself and your family - don't burn yourself out. Like E-Man said in the windshield film video , keep work fun, and it's not work. I look forward to visiting your shop in February when I'm in town visiting my family. It would be cool if I could watch part of an installation, but I understand that's most likely not an option. Thanks again for sharing and keep your focus - sounds like you're on the right track... Cat looks great - can't wait to watch the wrap change video!!! Merry Christmas to you, your family, and the entire Chicago Auto Pros TEAM!

Seeing this takes a lot of stress off of me. I went to one of your classes late 2022 and got to have a drink with you. I was amazed by the operation and you’re right, many detailers do look up to you. Since attending your class in September 22 we got accredited by Gtechniq in March, opened up a shop in July and trying to have a small detail supply store front opened the beginning of the year. I share many of the same thoughts as you about cashflow, reinvesting everything back into the business. Sometimes your wife will question your sanity😂 e We want to get opticle in our shop but with our coatings getting slow it’s a bit scary. Hope to see you again in 2024!

Jason you have created a legendary company! Your commitment to the customer, employees and the final product is what makes your business stand out. I wish you weren't so far off in Chicago - go south, better weather and wider customer base. In my opinion - your channel shines when you show the work & the process! Don't always feel the need to highlight work on exotic dream cars - some of the best videos you have made have been showing a normal car (non-EV), come out amazing. It's what makes me determined to go to you when I get a new car. Onward and upwards!

Great video. I love the candidness. Something a lot of business owners don't put out there for everyone (including your competitors) to see. I commend that. Coming from a viewer that enjoyers your videos, does KZbin makes sense? I imagine the actual business of detailing cars, and selling product, is your bread & butter? Does KZbin generate business for you? Regardless, great stuff.

Something as simple as a mini fridge or like a shop fridge with soft drinks in it for customers to avail of when waiting or even if they’re dropping off but driven a while to get to can make a really nice wee touch to the experience. Something I’ve always had in my shop, it’s simple, cheap and nobody gets annoyed at a free tin of coke or Dr Pepper or something!

If your target market is the high end client, I’d suggest going to other businesses that have a similar market and examine those experiences. For example, go to a high end personal spa or clothing store. You will notice the environment, how customers are treated, are they offered a refreshment (what brand of water, champagne etc), the seating, etc and consider emulating that experience. But remember if you create a high end experience, you will also exclude another potential market segment. You don’t have to dream this up yourself, as there are many successful businesses that target the same clientele. Maybe send (treat) some of your employees to those experiences and have them come back and report to the group what they noticed, felt, experienced, and how that might translate to Chicago Auto Pros. This will help create the vision without you preaching it to them. They learn by seeing and feeling it in real life, while also getting the benefit of a spa day, luxury hotel stay, etc. It could be a win-win.

I bring coffee to many of my detailing clients. I also leave a mini 2 oz spray bottle of apc and microfibers in their glove box or trunk in case they have a spill. when I'm close by their home I will make sure to say hi, follow up or if I see them I make sure to say something kind and thank them. many have become friends not just customers. we have to stop thinking of people as just clients and they will support us for a long time. you could have a lounge area for people who want to wait or watch the car wash . you could also have a area to watch a movie or play video games or deck setup for checking their work while they wait and feel comfortable... though you probably thought of these ? great video great goals.. wishing you all the success in the world. keep it up

Hey Jason, I've been a follower for 12 odd months, excellent content for learning about detailing & what to use 👌. Ha e you thought about having performance board that you & the management can review to identify successful outcomes and have causation points for those items that didn't go so well to be able to carry out a problem solving session with the team to mitigate for the future. You can track monthly performance & problem areas for recurring trends. Keep up the great work 👊

Great timing! Been spending a lot of time going over our 2024 plan, and it's definitely a great time to refocus. We're tiny compared to you guys, but I love the idea of a quarterly meeting and importance of focusing on goals. Lately I've been focusing too much on this grandiose fantasy-esque idea of what I want my business to be compared to executing on goals based on the reality of what the market is demanding. However, it's hard sometimes to balance what to do based on what demands are vs. what your business mission statement would advise you to do...thanks for the video. Cheers from San Diego!

I guess I was initially drawn to your videos pre-pandemic because I liked to see everyone interact with each other, explain their plan for a vehicle, execute or modify said plan, elaborate if needed, and finish with a clean product. I also enjoyed seeing the various cars, no matter how seemingly mundane, because each of those cars is special to someone. And it's inspiring to see a daily driver look so clean. Even if it's just window tint, I liked seeing a video that showed whatever cars were in the shop and why they're there. It made me feel like I was part of the team! You probably need another personality in the shop who can interact with the crew and keep things light and energetic. Someone comfortable in front of the camera, or maybe at least comfortable behind the camera. I've always felt like there's no pressure we experience except for the pressures we allow. Some pressure is always a good thing, and you can always have too much or too little pressure. You're doing a good job if you're able to reflect and learn. Keep it up!

Man we gotta talk about youtube soon. I think the newest stuff you guys do is a good direction. I don’t know detail products and you guys do a good job showing where and how to use them. Also a dive into all the installations and services. That format is probably the best thing you can do for all 3 business. The hardest part is thumbnail and title. So much of the videos performance is based on that. It’s something I always have a very hard time figuring out. Video viewing habits have also changed a lot with short form being so popular. I can go way deeper on that. With all that said, from a business sense. these are all top funnel marketing platforms. So the work that needs to be put in, doesn’t always make sense when you have a good business. So it’s really important to understand what results you want from a KZbin channel. And have some good ways to measure them. Cuz chasing subs and views is an endless hamster wheel. Ask me how I know 😅 Thanks for the insight into the problems. I get back in town early next year so I’m hoping I can make it out there for a few days.

Jason, you're on the right track, it's the business owners to don't continually critique their performance (sometimes having to swallow a bit of pride along the way) that fail. I found you via your KZbin channel, it's been invaluable to me for up to date product reviews and techniques, I value these episodes the most. You kindly responded to a personal email of mine with detailed information, which was more than expected. Your KZbin intro led to several purchases on Car Supplies Warehouse, admittedly, I'm not 100% loyal (shoppers gotta shop), but it's the first place I look. Likewise, your Glenview crew took care of my '22 F350 dually when it had less than 300 miles on the odometer and they did a fantastic job for such a large truck. Future rides will be getting the Chicago Auto Pros treatment. Keep up the good work and thank you for the service.

Listen to your people... some of the brightest firefighters I worked with had no desire to become officers but were content to take on the role of the "senior man" and coach others. The core value should be to empower your personnel, learn from mistakes and use these to raise the bar and keep CAP and CSW moving forward.

Enjoy your channel and videos. I am a Bays member in Wheeling. I would like videos on DIY hobby detailer techniques. I am not interested in all the new technology and global products. I enjoy US companies manufacturing products we can use to support small businesses. I cannot afford so many new products. Having fun detailing our own cars and friends is of interest. Hope you all continue the good work, you have developed a great business. Wish you the best in 2024.

So there are a couple of things that crossed my mind as you talked. I don't remember books unfortunately, but there was one that pointed out there are managers and there are leader. Leaders provide the focus/direction and let people get the work done and make people want to succeed. Managers focus on the small details and are critical over small details. They often do not inspire people to follow, think micro managers. I think any business needs a bit of both but in the right places. Something to consider with people placement and promotions. The other is every employee has thier own motivation/reward system and finding that out will make them happy. Some are completely driven by money rewards, some are driven by praise, and some are driven by challenges. I'm not sure if im missing some, i probably am, but the point is finding out what thier reward system and providing them that reqard will make them happy. This is something the managers could work on to determine what thier employees like to provide them. I know I'm not doing it justice here and is fairly involved but shpuld make happy employees.

What i think you need more than anything is an assistant. Get someone that has enough detailing knowlege to not need to be babied but not too much to be extremely opinionated that you can send to do things and know they will get done. That way you can deligate things that need to get done without feeling pulled 15 different ways. Also if it goes well you can get a better work/life balance

While the coffee and champagne might sound nice, these offerings require additional attention of staff time. I suggest keeping mini fridge stocked, maybe adding custom labels to water bottles, which the customers can take away. Low additional cost. Not too waste. No time wasted by staff attending to half consumed beverages. Minimal freebies will result in less mess being added to your clean and beautiful reception area. Just my two cents as someone who deals with people asking for something because it’s free only to have them take a few sips or bites and walk away leaving me to deal with the cleanup in my already hectic day.

Put a fish tank in the car like pimp my ride. One hell of an experience they will never forget! Disclaimer: They may not come back Loved hearing the truth in the video tho! As someone who is newer to detailing it even makes me self aware in some areas i need to improve on building my foundation! I wish much success to your business in ‘24 I don’t watch your vlogs so much but I should probably start to see if I can pick up on anything else. But KZbin is so over saturated with bland detailing videos if you guys plan some true educational content or just things that are creative it’ll bring great success.

I like “Defend our culture”. If you haven’t, I recommend training employees on how to do that because it’s not easy to point out to a peer/colleague that something’s wrong. Maybe roll-play. Good luck!

You should take the time to talk to one customer a week or every two weeks. Discuss the experience and their satisfaction with them. A survey is not enough. A personal one on one conversation with them is what is needed. Don’t make it that the only way you are involved with the customer be when there is a problem.

What i think we want to see in my opinion is your shop vlogs ( loved them and glad they are back) and your product durability testing videos. Some how to videos like polishing, coating, etc different variables, techniques etc being genuine

Invest back into your buildings, both the inside and out. Work with high end car sales shops to talk about you. Keep up the car shows. That generates repeat business. Partner with other businesses that relate to you, such as a rim repair shop

Jason! You sound like OG Matt here! Lol Just to respond to what you said about wanting to hear bk from us , I miss jason the best detailer in the usa! Whered that guy go? The hands on Jason doing a detail and learning from him, listening to how his brains thinking about the job before him, the cars color the coating choice, process, and watching it get done before my very eyes. I personally stopped watching a lot of CAPros content cuz it seemed like just another whos who in the industry shoulder rubbing shit show! I miss the jason that educates me , makes me a better detailer! The stuff that helps me every day on my own jobs with my own details and customers! I cant speak for anyone but myself and you asked for my (the viewers) opinion, so here it is brother! I get it, you grew huge , had to promote etc but man i miss the old hands on jason

Keep your requirements simple. The Big Picture. Don’t talk to the Group only. Go to each individual and work with them and ask the for ideas. It doesn’t matter as long as the task gets done efficiently. You must make a profit, they owe you their time during the day and then you pay them. Even!! The Customer is needed but KISS(Keep it simple Stupid) works. Bad attitude is a killer. Dispose of them

this video is what i want, i want more " vlog car washes ", like all different cars " . I have a golf, i want to se video's of vw golf cars, more normal cars. When u wash very expensive cars is not getting into me. I prefer to watch normal cars washes. I want 15 to 20 minutes video , when a video is too long i skip a lot. Cuz i do not find time to watch . This is a great video but not always i find time to watch it.

Ok, I have a follow up. People who spend $1k on a car being detailed are pretty much geeks. Don’t give me a champagne for customer service. Hand me over to someone in the polishing area who is working on another car. Let them talk through how much of a pain the butt the car is. Tell them how you’re going about it. The geek (me) will leave with a smile and think “yeah, I trust these guys”.

IF I may suggest, First ur not there to hold everyones hand that's their parents job when they were kids, they need to realize their in a mans world now and they can't bring their big boy attitude, you have to have team building at least twice a year, run surveys on your customers, take care of ur early patrons at the shop and the store, the people that basically supported ur since day 1 and lastly stop over thinking what u could and should have done because u made decisions base on that moment and situation.

First off, please don't be like the rest of the automotive KZbinrs coming out with their own line up of detailing products that are usually their label on someone else's product. Second, you're a little too focused on company culture. Your employees care about their pay and benefits first, being treated with respect second, and just being allowed to do their job third. They're not going to focus on ways to grow the business. You're not paying them for that. They are trusting that you hired them because they fulfill a need that will grow the business just by them showing up and doing the job. Your business is a part of you because you've invested your time and money into it. Your employees however have invested time into a paycheck. Majority of your employees aren't going to pay much attention to the values you set out. They will just set out to do the best job they can do.

My father and i have "crazy" ideas for our detail shop for both customers and employees as well. Like we want to put massage chairs in the lobby area and a couple in the shop to help us rejuvenate. we want to build a table for them in the lobby, we have a TV set up, drinks, fridge etc to give the customer the best experience while they are waiting.
