Genuinely pleased to see a cheaper version/option of these expensive bags. I know Brompton are good quality, but sooo expensive. Thanks more like this please you two, love your stuff.

I traded in my old Brompton for an eBrompton so the chances of touring on it is zero. But, it doesn't stop me from enjoying your videos.

This video is PERFECT and came just at the right time!!! I've been looking for Brompton bags for commuting to work for a while now and was resigned that I'd have to pay a lot of money, but now that I've watched this video I think I'll have a go at converting a bag I own already! Thanks so much, this is fantastic!!!

Great vid - very clear precepts and practical. I’ve a B Electric which of course requires any DIY bag to incorporate a secure and central location for the battery. Valeria produces several shopping and commuter bags for the BE (I have one) which use the frame from Brompton’s City bag. To obtain touring volumes of 25-30l I use it open topped with an Osprey rucksack waterproof cover. This enables ease of access, but is still less secure/elegant than a 30l roll top. Perhaps a project for someone is a DIY Brompton Electric bag?!

Another great video - I had the same challenge and couldn't get my roll top panier to clip to the frame. Ended up buying a Trigo metal adaptor online, fixed it to a piece of steel plate, riveted pannier to it & it's great. 100% waterproof, secure on the front block & much cheaper than equivalent off the shelf options too!

Trying a DIY with one of those adaptor is part of my to do list. Did the final result interfere with the handlebar/cabling in any way?
@davidclark1152
@davidclark1152 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, had no problems with interference with mine, although the panier isn't huge (14L I think). That's why the metal adaptor is great as you have some control over the mount. Have done abt 500 miles with mine so far and it's proving reliable, even when fully loaded. Happy to share a photo of my set up if there's a way to do so...

After many two-week-trips on my Brompton I ended up with just a soft bag strapped to the front of my handlebars and the stem. Using these as a mounting point instead of the luggage block calms the steering significantly; and it saves weight (no block, no luggage frame). This is not viable for a lot of weight though; and instead of two seconds I need five to remove the bag from the bike.

Just what I was looking for. I have to figure how to make a front carrier for my 10lb dog! Thank you. I welcome any suggestions!
@2Bikes4Adventure
@2Bikes4Adventure Жыл бұрын
We would likely start with an existing bicycle pet carrier/basket (new ones start at $20 on Amazon.com) and attach a Brompton bag adaptor to it ($20 (Vincita) to $29 (Trigo) on Amazon.com). Alternatively, if you own a Brompton bag already, reusing its frame and attaching the pet carrier to it using some tie-wraps would most likely do the trick. Good luck.

If you can get your hands on a T-bag, you're set. My dog is around 13lb and is quite happy riding in mine, mounted in the front block. I've used it for about 5 years without issue - I'd say I've loaded easily double the recommended weight in groceries alone and never a fail. She rides in it sideways with her paws on the "lip". I roll fold the bag lip/rim a couple times (to the outside), then clip the sides after a twist or 2. This helps firm up the edges. Finally, I use the centre strap to cinch her in a little for security, tucking the slack from her leash into one of the rear "drink" holders. She loves it.

@@gideonemery1308 thank you just today I received in the mail the Brompton Burroughs basket. I’m going to try that out tomorrow and I think that’s gonna work out really well. I am interested with some more ventilation I seen. Some pet carriers with a lot of screening all around specially, for the summer. In the meantime, I think this is gonna work perfect! Thank you for your suggestion of the tea bag I know there’s gonna be more Brompton bags or the like in my future, I’ve only had my Brompton about a week first one very excited!

Great video! I ended up using an Ortlieb QL 3.1 Office black reflective bag, the mounting hardware fits perfectly on the Brompton carrier rack. One problem is the Office Bag is such an old design, they really need to update it. Another issue with that bag is that it's really challenging to add an water bottle pocket to. With the backroller panniers, you can add one t othe sides but with the office bag, you need the sides to close the clips. Also, I'm still looking for a way to mount my Ortlieb Ultimate handlebar bag to the Brompton carrier block. Any ideas about that?
@2Bikes4Adventure
@2Bikes4Adventure 2 жыл бұрын
When touring with a DIY bag, I usually attach a bottle holder on the back of luggage rack (a cheap $10 Decathlon Riverside Fabric handlebar bottle cage will do). It has the advantage of being easy to reach while cycling and doesn’t need any modification to the bag. I assume you want to simulate an Orlieb mini O-Bag with your Ultimate, an interesting challenge. Assuming you do not want to modify your existing Ortlieb bag or handlebar mounting bracket, I would buy a Brompton luggage adapter plate ($5 on Aliexpress) and install an short horizontal bar on it (to simulate an handlebar) and install your Ortlieb mounting bracket on it. It would be a little bit “Frankenstein-looking”, but it’s cheap and should work. Good luck!

For option 4: Ortlieb Office Bag - where do you drill the holes so it works with the Brompton frame? I have a bag on the way and wanted to use the method described in this video. Thanks!
@2Bikes4Adventure
@2Bikes4Adventure 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Spring Mustachio, First, remove the mounting bracket located at the back of the bag (there should be 3 Phillips screw on QL2). Loosely clip the mounting bracket to the top of your Brompton luggage rack. Move your bag on the luggage rack and, using a marker or a pen, mark horizontally where the bracket touches the back of the bag (should be higher than the existing holes). Remove the mounting bracket from the frame and align it with the pen marks on the bag. You will need to drill the back of the bag to coincide with the 3 Phillips screw holes of the bracket. It our case, the holes were about 25.5cm from the bottom of the bag (the middle of the hooks being 27.4cm from the bottom of the bag) If by mistake, you drill too low, the bag won’t rest on the lower support when attached (annoying but not catastrophic). If you drill too high, the Ortlieb clip won’t attach securely to the luggage rack (we don’t want that). We plugged the 3 original Ortlieb holes using tire patches. Good luck and enjoy your new DIY Waterproof bag.

I do have the Brompton C-bag, but these are great tips! I’m looking for a rear rack solution. I don’t know if the trunk bag is still available. That would give me the ideal solution to go on my adventures. Some trips around Belgium. Some days on the road. No camping.
@2Bikes4Adventure
@2Bikes4Adventure 3 жыл бұрын
Brompton Rack/Trunk Bag are certainly getting fewer and far between in bike stores recently. Vincita Nash bag could be an option, but is smaller. Some conventional bike trunk bags do fit fairly well on the Brompton rack, but it could be hit and miss if ordered online. Another option would be to “hack” a solution. This site www.shanecycles.com/carrying-luggage-on-a-brompton-folding-bike/ shows how to attach an Ortlieb horizontally on the rear rack. Maybe you are doing something similar already?
@janmorren1
@janmorren1 3 жыл бұрын
@@2Bikes4Adventure I'm not. But the suggestion is good though. How they put two bags on top of each other, is interesting. I have to think about the heel stride. And indeed, that Vincita bag is something I'm considering. With the paniers, the heel stride is still prevented, and it gives more room. Thank you very much for your answer! Somehow, I'll manage to get those bags going :-) Cheers!

How are the aftermarket front carrier blocks? Do you recommend them or should we stick with the original blocks (for carrying weight limits).

I noticed you used a large box to bring the Brompton to Japan as luggage. Where did you store the box while cycling? How did you bring the Bromptons on the trains without carry bags?
@2Bikes4Adventure
@2Bikes4Adventure 3 жыл бұрын
Most of the time, when we travel with boxes, we discard them at the arrival airport. For the return flight (assuming we are not cycling back home), we use IKEA Dimpa bag padded with corrugated plastic sheets. In trains, use the same Dimpa bags as well.
