Listen! Don't you hear these mad symphonies of grievance and fear? Melancholy and despair can be sensed when we draw near. Some hear a violin sound, others hear a man moaning in tears. These fields are haunted by nature's most sombre melodies. Suicidal white noise absorbing the essence from light, mirth and vitality. These grounds are haunted by reflections from World War ii... Arise! 1941, '42 The identity of warfare on the East Front is lugubrious. There's one soldier incapable of committing sin. Kept alive by his comrades thanks to his heavenly gift with a violin. His brilliant music so beautiful and pure... Shining warmth upon every soldier... It helps them to endure. Breath-taking melodies consuming all hate, sorrow and fear. These magnificent tunes are like silk for their ears. And for a moment their pain disappears. But this moment will not last when they are baffled by another blast. The enemy is near. Rain of bullets killing soldiers there and here. And so the instrument of peace is being silenced by the one of war. It plays the music of the dead; music made of lead... "I've had enough of this sickening war and it's murderous puppets! They don't understand the language of music cannot be spoken in Death. I Never took a life! Maybe now is the time to take mine. In the name of music; shall I cut my wrists or hang myself high by a violin String? A symphonic suicide is what I shall bring! " The enemy lies on the other side of the field. He decides to walk straight into the fire fight, Playing this dreamlike masterpiece. Every soldier stops, holds his breath. Not a single shot is being heard during an intro for his own Death. And when the violin bow is being lowered at the end, Both sides simultaneously open fire. There's the corpse of the violinist lying in mud and barbed wire. These fields are haunted by the funerary dirge of a violinist. The funerary dirge of a violinist... Can't you hear his call of Death? Listen! Don't you hear these mad symphonies of grievance and fear? Melancholy and despair can be sensed when we draw near. Some hear a violin sound... Others hear a man moaning in tears... The Funerary Dirge of a Violinist, The Funerary Dirge of a Violinist. The Funerary Dirge of a Violinist... The Funerary Dirge of a Violinist!

The same sublime moment of solidarity took place in the battle for Stalingrad, when, on New Year's Eve of December 31 1942, Russian actors and musicians visited the besieged city to entertain the troops; the violinist Mikhail Goldstein went to the trenches to perform a one-man concert for the soldiers: "The melodies he created drifted out through loudspeakers to the German trenches and the shooting suddenly ceased. In the eerie quiet, the music flowed from Goldstein's dipping bow. When he finished, a hushed silence hung over the Russian soldiers. From another loudspeaker, in German territory, a voice broke the spell. In halting Russian it pleaded: 'Play some more Bach. We won't shoot.' Goldstein picked up his violin and started a lively Bach gavotte."

Just when i thought Black Metal can never be Progressive , CARACH ANGREN comes into my world... can't thank life enough
@AnkothOfficial2 жыл бұрын
I mean it already existed before Carach. Dimmu Borgir exists, maybe they're not as heavy lyrically as CA, since they mostly sing about the cliche black metal stuff (Satan, Religion, Atheism, Paganism, Mythology etc.) But they too have that progressive sound, now with a full symphony behind them, in a similar vein to the Death Metal band Septocflesh. Some of their songs aren't as heavy, with more "majestic" sounds, and less creepiness but they have some bangers too. Also I believe Emperor has some prog/symphonic elements with keyboard controlled samples, and black metal style production. There's also the band Blackthorn who have a violinist as part the band, they're more gothic metal, in the style of CoF, but also really good and have loads of Witchcraft/Horror themes. It exists in large quantities. What I want to know is if there is any Thrash Metal bands that are this progressive, apart from Hevein...

This video is clearly low-budget but damn if it doesn't emphasize the most chilling thing about this song (and war itself) IMO: the fact that soldiers aren't Rambos, they're for the most part just normal boys, barely adults, thrown into the most horrifying situations a human being can face, and oftentimes they don't even have a choice or full awareness of it. The part where the violinist considers suicide always makes me emotional, too. The way Seregor changes his voice as the character's sanity is slipping away but he's trying so hard to keep his dignity... it gives me the chills no matter how many times I hear it!
