I've driven both. The Everest was noticably better on the road. I didn't go to the dirt, so I can't speak to that. I'd be ok with the MUX if I wanted save the money.

Like the look of the Everest but in South Africa we only get the bi-turbo sport and V6 platinum and they are both ridiculously expensive. Just bought the LS-T (onyx here) . Swopped out the tyres for 18 ATs. Drive is truck like but better than Fortuner. Simple controls and performs well off road. Leather seats are sweaty in heat ( a far cry from the Napa of my previous Jeep) and I cannot seem to find a comfortable seating position. Its utilitarian but I hope it will keep for 10 years or so… not much hope for the piano black bits in the interior tho! So far, cloth in car to wipe down after use… this enthusiasm will probably fade over time😂. Guess only time will tell if after sales service is any good. For now, Donkey(MU-X) and I will motor on…

Would like to see these SUVs coming with 4 wheel independent suspension and 18” rims for off-roading. Also they really should be rated to take full payload whist towing full rated tow capacity. On another note I’d love to see a comparison between large SUVs like these and including the LR Discovery 5 and LR Defender 110/130.

Yeah Izuzu and customer service don’t go hand in hand either. As for proven reliability, not so much. Just read about Izuzu 3.0 lt issues. Turbo’s, cooling systems, intercoolers, DPF failure, leaking heads and the list goes on. Izuzu has just been hit by the ACC as well for their terrible customer service. Barge pole comes to mind. As for Ford. No better. Bringing out a 20 plus year old motor, mutton dressed as lamb anyone? I wish Hyundai or Kia would get into this game. At least they provide customer service!

Go buy an everest, trust me. All car company have issues with their cars, some of the issues were far more terrible than ford, and those issues by other company's didn't just make it on the newspaper. Ford is just widely known and gossips tend to spread faster. Issues were addressed eventually on next gen car. Just like toyota fortuner back in the days, they have issues with their first gen fortuners, but in second gen, they've already fixed it. What company will want to go bankrupt because of some issues. If you think car company like toyota or isuzu is the best, then why is ford still topping up the market sales despite having those issues. All those broken or blown up ford engines are heavily modified (by the owner) and not well maintained, maintained but handled by 3rd party shops, no car will last very long if you don't do proper maintenance.

Reliability not considered. My 2018 Everest Trend has had a multitude of problems. Transmission replaced after 2 years of complaining, AdBlue heater (recall), AdBlue injector ($1700) and heater pump (approx $2000) replaced, all 4 doors corroded and are being replaced. Gearbox playing up again. Now out of warranty and I am too scared to keep it. So I am considering the MUX for reliability - I hope.

It seems to me that Ford has taken this road of "we are Ford, people will always buy our cars!" and they w`ont listen to customers at all! A few years back one of my customers (i worked in sales, not car sales) bought 2 Ford`s for the family. One of them was the Edge(Europe), the other was a smaller SUV for the wife. He knew the guy from auto-dealer and for buying 2 cars he got a good price cut. After 3 months he returned both of them because of reliability and poor quality in fitings. After all those years some would say Ford has learned a lesson and payed a bit more in order to improve reliability, I guess, viewing comments here, they did not. Too bad, if Henry had seen something like that all actual Ford managers would have been unimployed. ON Topic: MU X all the way! People buy cars to reach destinations, not to post pictures on social (normal people). This means the car should be able( as a whole) to reach that destination everytime!

For me, the MU-X value proposition outweighs the Everest - for the price difference I can live without the enormous ipad, fancy pants driving modes, the 20" wheels and a real-world fuel consumption of well over 10l/100 (that claimed 7.6 l/100 is not even possible if you pushed it, downhill in neutral). MU-X could obviously do with an improved on-road drive feel as it is very obviously a body on ute chassis (the Everest feels way more improved in this department) but for gravel/offroad it outshines the Everest, & for towing, the 6 speed gearbox is sublime. The MU-X interior is rather utilitarean at best, but the LST model does provide for some improvements to bring it marginally closer to the Everest - although you would be hard pressed to see the difference between specs just by looking at them. I also prefer the flat folding MU-X 3rd row (Everest causes a rearward slide of anything larger than a carry-on bag due to the "non-flat" nature). Finally, Isuzu reliability v Ford - enough said: Isuzu hands down!

They were both on my short list but I dropped the Everest from it due to continued transmission issues that Ford seem unwilling to sort so the MUX is looking likely now.

Theres a reason nobody uses a everest to travel to the cape or across the Nullarbor. Its a pretty looking suv but about as reliable as a bmw or merc. The transmission is renowned for shitting itself when towing vans or actually putting it to actual work. I love how all the drive guys talk about useless stuff like how the interior looks expensive but negate the main stuff like recall numbers, product reviews of how bad the ford reliability is. Isuzu are renowned for the 4jj1 or 3 motor doing over 500k without blowing anything. If u want a light use 4wd get a Ford, but don't expect it to last once you lean on it. If you want reliable workhorse which you can take anywhere get the isuzu

Had some bad experiences with Ford over the last 10 years. I really like the interior of the Everest, but they have becime so common on South African roads and taking eveything in to account, the MUX would be the wiser more practical decision for me in South Africa. Priced right too.

Not sure about reliability but I am sure I will never consider the MU-X . Seems a car of 5 years ago. No ventilated seat, huge infotainment and digital cluster is definitively a no nowadays. This doesn’t mean I will definitively go with Everest if not convinced about reliability but at least I will consider it.

Why do pretty much all manufacturers fit wheels and tyres that make the ride WORSE to their "premium" models? And not just in 4WDs but in every segment. It's nuts.

MUX seats feel funny to sit in but I believe it’s supposed to be roomier than Everest? Hope I’m wrong I felt more cramped in mux than my old Pajero. I like the look of the Ford but why don’t the back seats fold flat, why the stupid back to front gear stick and really why the third row in higher specs? Yes, I can confirm from my experience that it is a useful off-road and does help. However, you can't use it and the diff lock at the same time. So, you need to choose which works better in certain situations. - Sam

Just wondering why you cannot/ should not drive the MUX in H4 onroad? According to a salesperson they did not raise any issues in doing so in slippery conditions like rain or dirt? Is that because it locks the centre diff ie 50/50 torque slit?
@robertmason2076
@robertmason2076 Жыл бұрын
@@MeMurphy10Febit’s cause the Isuzu transfer case is a traditional 4wd transfer case that is completely locked when in 4wd like all the old school patrols and landcruisers etc. To use it on road you need a transfer case with in built ability to slip. Give me Isuzu transfer case any day.

Everest second row seat needs to recline further and slide back further so taller passengers can adjust to fit. I’m 6’3 and I can’t fit in the second row with front seats in my driving position. Should be able to option platinum without 3rd row seats. For those reasons I’ve crossed it off my list

Kind of silly to compare the two specs except if you look at just price. The 2.0L ford will undoubtedly have less longevity than the Isuzu especially if you give the car work to do towing etc. so if it’s driving around town, the ford, anything else you’d go isuzu. Can compare the 3.0L v6 ford but then the prices are just too far apart really and the Isuzu is the value play and ford is premium option.
