The Honda Civic has always been a more interesting choice for buyers in the Focus-sized family hatchback segment. Over five decades and ten distinct generations, Honda has refined its approach with this model, perfecting a design and engineering-led package that tends to encourage brand loyalty. Conquest customers though, have been harder for this Japanese maker to attract over recent model generations, hence the fundamental changes made to the MK10 Civic in 2016 that transformed its styling, its safety sophistication and, most importantly, the mainstream petrol engines beneath the bonnet. As a result, this under-rated British-built contender was hugely improved in tenth generation guise and could represent a surprisingly attractive package for the right kind of buyer.

Yes cambelt no point in looking at fuel consumption if you have a bill of ,£2500 for the service and cambelt when it's 6 yrs old. Had to get rid of mine for that reason. They don't even guarantee it after they've replaced it. Why don't reviewers tell you this first

The 1 litre engine requires a £1700 pound cam belt change at 6 years old unfortunately i have learnt better to stick to the 1.5 engine which has a timming chain

Thanks for letting us know. I'm considering a Civic and there are plenty of 1.0s on the market. I'll spare myself the painful service bill.

Thats strange because since 2006 all civics have a timing chain, not a cam belt.

I know this is a year old comment but afaik the 1.5l turbo have oil dilution issues, so change the oil regularly

Nothing new there then ! You can say that about a lot of manufacturers that come across a complaint and completely ignore it

Whatever car you wish to buy, always remember these thumb rules below : 1000cc - Hot hatchback (Yes) , Sedan (No) 1000cc turbo - Hot hatchback (Yes) , Sedan (No) 1500cc - Hot hatchback (Yes) , Sedan (Yes) 1500cc turbo - Hot hatchback (Yes) , Sedan (No, you will pedal to the metal and eventually damage your engine) 2000cc - Hot Hatchback (Hell Yeah), Sedan (Good choice) 2000cc turbo - Hot Hatchback (OverKill, Rally Car Power), Sedan (Perfect Match) So, never buy a 1500cc turbo sedan car, you are better off with a 1500cc NA sedan car driving it slowly and not killing it. Dont buy Honda Civic with 1000cc turbo or 1500cc turbo, its useless. Go for the 2000cc vtec and dont look back !

I`m guessing You`re from different market. there are only turbo petrols on offer in this market for this model. currently contemplating about sedan 1.6diesel. only tank seems to be small 45litres (10 gallons), still should be able to do 600miles/1000km easy on it in real life. according to official numbers it would be 750miles on one refuelling.

They dont have belts, since 2006 they are timing chains.

Not true, its a belt on the 1.0 engines.
