Great review. It’s 2k too much. But the GP Lauretto is 3500 too much. They’re all too much because that’s what these companies have decided to do recently. I think it may start to be harder for them to move most watches at full retail

I mean...a Datejust is 10k now, give or take. I wish we hadn't gone through so much inflation both for utility stuff and luxury goods, with those kind of watches still being 5-8k. If we don't buy those maybe they'll start making discounts again. Onto the watch, I think I still prefer the Aqua dial. A color you don't find everywhere, at least...

What a beautiful watch. I've been thinking more about IWC. My Local AD recently lost their IWC status, just when I became more interested in them.

I personally own the Titanium version and I LOVE IT. Thr polish edges, the integrated bracelet, the weight, the grid dial… I love everything about this watch. Would have bought the blue dial instead but it is what it is 😂. Still very happy with this watch, 100m water resistance screw down crown “shef kiss👌🏼”

For me the titanium version has the extra feel and vibe than all steel versions.

same thing was going for the aqua dial. but the AD showed me and made me try the titanium and i was like F u man this is much better.. and the mate finish compared to the glossy finish of steel made me go with the titanium

I absolutely love this blue! Having tried all the others on, I just couldn't settle on any of the previous models. I find this blue makes for a lovely balance between the dial and the Genta designed case and bracelet. IMO the balance is a bit off on the white, black and aqua. The grey gets it right too but in a different, more industrial way.
@rvtBCКүн бұрын
Tried this blue on at the IWC AD. Loved the fit and on wrist feel. Also tried the Mark XX blue dial, which was the watch I was shopping for my price point. Liked the Ingenieur more but the price, at close to double the Mark XX was just too much (particularly as same movement inside). If I had the money …. (Ultimately ended up crossing the street and bought a Cartier Santos, white dial in large - the white in person had that extra hit which surprised me, and felt a step up in luxury vs the Mark XX).

Nice move. The Santos is very versatile, especially white dial having all those strap options (DeLug is in the game now:). And with IWC historically poor residual value, you’ll be able to pick one up under 10 in a couple of years. There was one under 9 a few months ago on 1916, surprisingly with their above market listing practices.

I think my knock on this watch is that it somehow costs 5500 more than a Mark XX, despite having the same movement. That doesn't feel reasonable to me from a pricing standpoint. Certainly it should be more expensive than the mark xx but I think the fact that it has something like a 30% curb tax means that people think this thing is a bit overpriced. I think if IWC made this like 9K-9500, they'd be able to get more people to upgrade from the Mark XX and it'd go towards raising their average sale price - which certainly implies that they basically just sell mark XX and spitfires
@PPN462Күн бұрын
The price gap was even more difficult to justify until recently when they finally updated the Ingenieur’s bracelet with the same hidden extension while the Mark XVIII and XX had it for a while.

Will they ever release glossy dials? The current iteration of waffle and stripes pattern just doesn't work for me. The older Ref 3303 executed a more refined look.
@cal.3861Күн бұрын
Really good video and you asked all the questions a true watch enthusiast was thinking. I think it is an embarrassment that IWC chose this movement for that release at that price point. It is a slap in the face and a pure rip off. I can buy the Baume and Mercier Baumatic and get the COSC version of this movement for a third of the price. Rolex is the gold standard for watches between 7.5k-15k. The give you the fit finish and most importantly excellent accuracy. I have 2 Rolexes and both run under + 1 sec/day. I just get aggravated at the greed of these large companies and the watered down product they end up trying to sell you. Just my 2 cents.
@DP185-h3xКүн бұрын
Very good video. Very informative and detailed. Well done. I agree on the butterfly clasp needing a micro adjustment. Also "in group" vs "in house" movement description is better way to look at it. Also, I have heard collectors complain about price point of the Ingenieur, specifically because Baume and Mercier uses the same "in group" movement variation at 1/3 the cost of this watch.

@kcmtsang20 сағат бұрын
Glad it has micro adjustment as an option, some people like this feature and some don‘t. I don’t like this feature cos the clasp is thicker and bigger, and doesn‘t look asethetically as good as the standard bufferfly clasp Having choose is always better than not.

In the metal, I found this blue dial unimpressive--it lacks the eye-catching pop of the Rolex Bluesy, nor is it deep navy like the previous-gen Seamaster. Mark XX has IWC's best blue dial right now, and it costs far less.

I looked at one of these in person and pulled the crown out and the minute hand jumped slightly. Some might say its not a big deal but i feel like for the price point, this shouldn't be happening.
@poloman88817 сағат бұрын
On the price gap between the Mark XX and this Ingenieur having the same movement: If IWC priced this lower than what the other integrated bracelet watches in the video (Chopard, Zenith, etc.), then the Ingy would become the "PRX" alternative of those aforementioned brands. Not a good look...and feel. And will you really compare the design and wearing experience of a pilot watch and an integrated steel sports watch?
@dylzp12 сағат бұрын
Whether it’s a “good look” or not, you can’t just derive 2x the value (Mark XX to the Ingenieur) out of thin air. All the pretence in the world cannot save IWC here, people have been saying this for a very long time now and they’re still saying it today. This is obviously how people feel or else they would’ve stopped bringing it up a long time ago.

Horses for courses. If you like the watch, buy it. Not for me, but I'm currently wearing a Marathon GSAR on my left wrist, and a Sinn UX S on my right wrist.
@chowda4uКүн бұрын
There are two ways to look at IWC pricing. Either the Ingenieur is overpriced or you're getting great value with their other models like the Mark XX. 🙂
@PPN462Күн бұрын
As an owner of a Mark XX, both are overpriced. The competition is also overpriced because there is no incentive to be actually competitive in that segment. B&M has a watch using the same movement for nearly half the price of Mark XX and almost 1/4 of Ingénieur. It’s also hard to deny that the Mark XX is one of the most expensive flieger-style watches with much more reasonably priced alternatives at Laco or Stowa if you don’t care as much about a 120h PR movement.
@patrickdaly5988Күн бұрын
@@PPN462 This really. If Richemont had never came along and purchased IWC, the mark series would still likely be in the same ballpark price as Sinn, Damasko or Stowa equivalent offerings.

Love IWC, but the Inge is a miss for me. Most dealers will knock off 20%, however, making the price a bit more palatable.

I had a look from up close. It feels oddly light, as if the bracelet was hollow. The brushing on top of the case was not perfect (I’m comparing with Rolex). At £12k I expect it to be better than an Oyster Perpetual. It just shows again how good Rolex watches are at retail. The screws on Cartier watches are misaligned on purpose. If they were aligned, they would not look like screw heads.

I like both the Mark XX and the Ingénieur but I don’t like the Ingénieur’s design enough to justify the unusually big gap in premium. Also the latter is kind of at odd with the rest of what IWC design looks like. So I went for the Mark XX and I’ll likely shop somewhere else for the integrated bracelet style.

complete fail compared to the original. im just honest. its a great example of how make out of an elegant subtle and meaningful piece or art a monster that not even reach the Zeitgeist. Vacheron C did it perfect with the new 222 in blue. Thats how it should be done.
@leeharding8306Күн бұрын
A beautiful watch and I’ve tried them all on but the movement isn’t good enough for the price. No chronometer certification and the well known jumping minute hand problem when you pull the crown out is a flaw that shouldn’t be on a watch at this price point. The clasp solution is also very poor along with the lume. It’s at least 25% too expensive for me but it’s a slim beautiful piece if you can get a discount.
@patrickdaly5988Күн бұрын
The Mark XX clasp is just the lowest possible effort "solution" from IWC. It's something people were doing themselves. It completely takes away from what they're doing, and further undercut their ambitions for this watch For what they're charging (considering the savings with that group movement) they really should be doing a lot better , especially if they're thinking of this as being in remotely the same sphere as RO or Nautilus.

We do like leading zeros. And zero based indexing. There is no 60th second or minute, just 0 to 59. Any watch with a 60 instead of a 00 at the 12'o'clock is an instant *will not buy*
