EverLoNG partners gathered recently on the SSCV Sleipnir from Heerema Marine Contractors to discuss the upcoming capture demonstration campaign. As of June 2024, the prototype capture unit is being put through its paces as the Sleipnir sets sail for a 5-week round trip from the Port of Rotterdam. The objective of the Sleipnir campaign is to test all aspects of the capture and onboard storage system.
The Sleipnir campaign follows the Seapeak Arwa campaign ( • Carbon capture demonst... , which demonstrated that CO2 capture rates of up to 85% are achieveable.
The findings from these campaigns are expected to be hugely significant for the development of Ship-Based Carbon Capture (SBCC) as one way of helping the maritime sector chart a course towards net zero by 2050.
