It´s so much stronger than the other two sticks. Very interestimg! Thank you for that try out. Woukd you like to do a test with carbonfibre epoxied tied to the balsa stick. To do that i thought to shrink it into a shrinking tube. AND it might also be interesting to compare it the its own weight, may be.

Thank you for the test

carbon fiber is strong in tension NOT compression. When testing compression, it is actually the resin that's loaded not the CF. Imagine a shoe string. if you push the ends towards each other the string buckles, but if you pull them apart they resist. this is exactly how CF works. In this test, placing the CF on the sides and bottom would yield the optimum effects of carbon fibers strength.

I think if you placed it on the bottom, the balsa wood might compress quite easily but it would be unlikely to break just bend and maybe the wood fibers would buckle. The side provided a bit of support each way but I'd like to see top and bottom, or even all 4 sides. Putting it on the top would be almost useless as the balsa on the bottom would just snap.

You should've the carbon fiber at the bottom when testing.

I have built wings with carbon fiber on top and bottom. I have also built an I beam wings with the carbon fiber vertical as it is here. Either way, neither of those wings has folded. I have folded two wings without carbon fiber.
