Late reply but, raw rice bran decomposes. Decomposition reaction produces heat. Additional heat to plants will cause it to wilt. You can use it to mix in the soil as a soil conditioner (adjust soil porosity) or it can be used as mulching (added on top) so that grass don't get sun light thus inhibits its growth.
