Another great upload Ron. Do u think its the compost or the biochar that helped the most in your dry areas?
@RonHenry4 жыл бұрын
Probably a combination of both Ned G. The biochar does a lot to improve moisture retention while the compost feeds the soil. They both play a part.
@ThrexxАй бұрын
Greenup like this would be expected with just an application of compost, which is half of what's in that bag. A better experiment would be applying straight biochar to an area, straight compost to another area and then having a control with no additions. I suspect only the compost area would show any improvements in 2 weeks.

Hi Sheril. You won't be sorry for adding the CarbonPro G. You can apply independently of Weed Stop without a problem. The 2 products don't conflict. Thanks for the update. one question I'm in Georgia with centipede grass does fertilizing and or adding carbon Pro promote weed growth as a side effect?
@RonHenry4 жыл бұрын
Hi Dean. CarbonPro G improves soil health which makes everything grow better. To control weeds, you can use herbicide, but the best way is to simply increase mowing frequency. This will promote more lateral growth in the centipede which will help choke out the weeds. Hope this helps.

Hi William. I called Site One and they gave me a spreader setting of 6 - 7 on your spreader for the Carbon Pro G. This should support the lower application rate. If you want to apply at 10lbs per 1000, go up to 8. 6 - 7 is a good starting point though. The product contains no NPK practically no chance of it damaging your lawn. Hope this helps. 😎👍

Hello... Please see the link below for spreader settings. Also it provides information on how to read the chart. www.siteone.com/en/spreader-settings I'm also looking into this carbon pro-g as it's cheaper than biochar/humichar. Hi Ron You’ve mentioned once in the comments about the number of bags of Carbon Pro-G that gets someone close to ‘saturation’ level. Can you help me with the following: 1. Confirm how much that amount will be? ... & 2. What is our evidence base for making this assessment? My concern is using too much over the next 12 months having a potentially deleterious effect on soil organisms and nutrient availability. Thanks
@RonHenry3 жыл бұрын
Hi William. Based on my conversations with the manufacturer, it's not so much saturation level as getting to the point where you're probably going to see diminishing returns from a biochar perspective. The equivalent of 120 lbs per 1000 square feet was applied by a Florida stadium when they were doing a field renovation. Remember that half of CarbonPro G is compost which will break down over time. So when you apply it, you're also introducing fresh organic material. It's really only the biochar component that builds up. Most home owners will never get anywhere near 120 lbs per 1000 square feet due to cost. At a minimum, it would be 4 - 5 year program. You're not going to hurt your turf with it. I've been applying it monthly since discovering it last year. I only saw benefits in my lawn from a standpoint of color and making nutrients (particularly micronutrients) more available. Hope this helps. Great question. 😎👍

When you say you applied double the rate in that area do you mean you made multiple concentrated passes of the area still laying down the maintenance rate of 5lbs or are you going heavier than the 10lbs initial treatment for the entire yard?
@RonHenry4 жыл бұрын
Hi David. I applied double the 10 lb rate to that section of the lawn. So 20lbs per 1000for that section of the lawn. Since this experiment, I've been applying CarbonPro G at the 10lb rate across the entire lawn.

@oceannut54523 жыл бұрын
I have a question. If carbon stays in the soil for an extended period of time (many years), why do we do a maintenance application month to month? Why not just do one extremely heavy application? Since there is no NPK I don't see any damage being done.
@RonHenry3 жыл бұрын
The monthly application is about increasing the amount in the soil; not replenishing. The saturation rate is somewhere in the area of 100lbs per thousand square feet so it takes quite a while (years) to build up that. You definitely can do one super heavy application. The reason why most people don’t do that is cost. When I apply monthly, I do put it down a bit heavier than bag rate. To your point, there’s no NPK, so no chance of damaging the turf grass. Awesome question. 👍😎
