@@carlramos9445 fair point. And you bring up an excellent point about Bob Kane fully stealing credit for many other people’s work - particularly Finger. I do feel from a pay standpoint that Ditko wasn't given enough, but at the end of the day Stan Lee came up with the idea and wrote the whole story. Ditko came up with the visual concept. It wasn't like the Batman controversy where Bill Finger wrote and developed Batman and Bob Kane stole it from him. Feel free to correct me if I have gotten the details incorrectly, but as far as I know from Stan Lee's interviews, he wrote the story first before giving the artists to bring it to life visually.
@CarbonScoring2 жыл бұрын
I wasn't there, so I can't say for sure. Stan was not afraid in interviews to overstate what he contributed. Most comic historians agree that Stan would usually come up with an idea - a one or two sentence pitch - then Kirby and Ditko would take it from there. So, it is true that the original "idea" would come from Stan, but much (if not most or all) of the stories came from the artists when using the "Marvel Method"

Gotta disagree with the creation controversy. When Ditko was granted writer privileges, he showed he really didn't understand who Peter Parker is and the morals of his character. Peter's whole story is about how great power comes with great responsibility. But Ditko completely forgot this lesson and had Peter acting like he did when he first got his powers. Ignoring problems that were inconvenient and trying to profit from being Spider-Man. That suggests to me Lee had more to do with Spider-Man as a character than Ditko did

Marvel isn't Marvel without Stan Lee (from a pop culture perspective)... but he isn't Stan "The Man" Lee without Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby (among many others), and they were most certainly not disposable cogs like he seemed to think, evident by their work after their departures from Marvel. However, there is something to be said about Ditko's philosophy of objectivism, which most definitely fueled the fire between the two (as opposed to Kirby, who didn't seem to hold AS much of a grudge against Lee as did Ditko). Not saying Ditko was wrong to feel what he felt (quite the opposite in fact), but it's still worth noting.
