Yep, the song of despair is also in parts of Midra's boss them. Fromsoft did this with almost all the main bosses in the DLC, including parts of a the theme from similarly thematic or linked boss's in the base game. You can hear Renalla's theme in Rellana's, parts of the Elden Beasts in Metyr's, etc. Its a nice touch.

And you only get to learn it if you explore around and figure it out yourself. A scholar who was researching the fingerprint ruins who discovered the three fingers and the flame of frenzy after meeting and marying a mysterious foreign woman and possibly losing a child. And then as hornsent inquisitors invaded to investigate heresy Midra failed to become a lord of Frenzy and had to endure his people being tortured and killed while he himself was impaled by a barbed sword meant to tear your head and spine out. And he's been sitting there and suffering for hundered to possibly thousands of years all through the age of the golden order while the frenzy grew inside him and he desperately tries to hold it in. And then we beat him up and make him pop.

Yep, he got locked into it dozens of episodes ago when he stumbled onto the 3 fingers. And once you get marked by them the only way to get out of that ending is a really long character side quest that you had to have started before even getting to the point where you could have met him. To be fair though to meet and be marked by the 3 fingers is a pretty long and complicated side quest on its own.
