The most powerful production MINI you can buy, the MINI John Cooper Works hatchback ups the ante from the Cooper S and serves as the flagship of the range. The other hint to its potency is that it uses the name of one of the biggest influences on the small car's history - John Cooper.
The JCW builds on the MINI brand's famous ‘go-kart-like’ handling ability with stiffer and lower suspension than other models and a more powerful version of the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine used in the Cooper S.
Smaller than a Golf GTI, the JCW is a better match for cars like the Audi S1 and Abarth 595 Competizione - a hot version of the chic Fiat 500 city car. The JCW starts at just over £23,000 - around £2,000 cheaper than the S1, but roughly £2,000 more expensive than the Abarth. And it's a massive £5,500 more than the cheapest version of our favourite small hot hatch, the Ford Fiesta ST.

Excellent review of the Mini JCW. You looked like you had a blast in the car. I have a 2016 Mini cooper S 2 door and I love it. The JCW is really expensive in Canada. The insurance is only $ 20.00 per month. The only maintenance difference is the brakes. DO you have a twitter account so I can post a link?

+Leung Aaron It is - there isn't much wind noise, and the tyre roar is quite a gentle rumble. You do hear the engine note, and in the manual versions there's a little valve in the exhaust that creates that 'pop, pop' noise. I drove one quite enthusiastically just yesterday and found it to be surprisingly comfortable and quiet, considering its size, speed and general character. Recommended.

funny thing is they werent initially on the r56 until they realized the turbo was melting the scoop. Solution was to open up a few holes in the scoop to manage the problem. So it is functional but it was a complete afterthought. Idjits!

If Toyota get 3 adults and a kid in a 3m car, I'm not sure why the almost 4m 3-doors Mini still has insufficient space in the back seats and small boot. They already have the 5-doors version, Countryman and the Clubman for those that want bigger cars, at least the 3-door version should pay some respect to the past. The Fiat 500 and Renault Twingo are much better designed in terms of interior space.

a few years back I tried mini for one day because my friends kept bragging about the sporty go cart feel of it. I took a few turns to test the handling and it was good. While sitting in la traffic the engine light turned on. People compare it to a go cart. I do not agree. My go cart is way more fun. The only similarity is that the steering wheel tries to escape your hands when you hit a slight bump. Which is awful. Others say its a top sports car. I would disagree again. Around this time I was also testing mustangs and dodge challengers which were way more fun when you hit the gas. I believe if someone out there is looking for a somewhat sporty car with great handling look at a miata. And if someone wants the go cart feel just go drive a go cart. Much more fun. Not to sound like a hater but please everyone test it for yourselves before buying.
