I have to admit that at first found him a teeny wee bit grating, but I think he is actually a very good reviewer, it's weird how he doesn't appear to be openly bias toward any one make, it is very matter of fact and though he cannot be overtly critical due to the nature of this channel, he does appear to be non-sycophantic toward those big brands and I do go back to some of his reviews, especially now as I am thinking of a getting a company car.

I love how british reviewers keep bringing up the Jaguar models and so far i've barely seen one on the road. All other reviewers from other countries never mention them because they're irrelevant. The XE is the worst of them, it looks like a 90ies mondeo, especially from the back.

Not sure which 3 series BMW HR refers to in this review but having driven the petrol and 2.2L Diesel Giulia I can say both were more responsive, dynamic and exciting to drive than either the BMW, Audi ( better quality cabin,console). Waiting for the 280PS Petrol Giulia Veloce to hit the roads now....

After having 3 BMW's, currently driving an F11, I still can't understand why all reviewers are praising the iDrive and calling it intuitive. It is as intuitive as a Linux computer or an Android phone. I hate it every day.

BokiXI I'm having a similar experience with Audi's MMI system... praised by the press as one of the easiest and most intuitive ... well, it's not. Yes you get used to it and things get better once you practice a bit, but still I wouldn't call it easy or intuitive... not surprised it's the story with BMWs...

Good review James, be interesting to see if Alfa can grab a bit of the exec saloon market with this. However its a crowded and competitive sector and I am not sure what the Giulia's USP is, apart from style perhaps. It will also be interesting to see if they can shake of the patchy support from the dealer network (in the UK) which arguably is just as important in growing the brand. Lastly, have they built a durable product ? - I have a Brera and a lot of these cars (and the 159) are failing their MOTs due to corrosion on the subframes. That's not something you would expect on a 6-7 year old car from any maker these days !

I don't know.. Of course it is good looking, but i expected sth better. After 147 and 159, I do not see dramatic design improvement. Plus, even if they belong to same family, Aegea (Tipo) and Giualia look so similar. It is an advantage for Aegea but disadvantage for Giulia which is quite expensive...

john john honestly, I didn't have any issues what so ever. Practicality isn't that great on the 159 and especially the Brera. But that didn't bother me to much. Walking into a parking lot and seeing my Brera parked next to a Golf made me feel like I made the right choice. Maybe I was lucky, I can only talk about my own experiences. Yes indeed, I would like to see some more comments on this!

I might be in the minority here, but although Alfas are good looking cars I cannot bring myself to want one. The whole "You can't be a true petrolhead if you've never owned an Alfa" is such Clarkson bullsh!t; looking at them and they are great to look at but they are the automotive equivalent of a reality TV celebrity underneath it all is a rather underwhelming and ordinary thing. I drove a Giulietta for a weekend, and it was really ok, nippy but unremarkable. Also it was really uncomfortable to sit in no matter how much I fiddles with the seat. I would like it if, for once, a car reviewer just said "Y'know what, Alfas look nice but...meh, honestly they're no better than SEAT". I cannot be the only person that think this....can I?

Chaka Whyte I had a 156 courtesy car for a week around 15 years ago, it left me underwhelmed as I was always told i needed to love it if i was to be considered a petrol head. I just remember it being distinctly average

Did you put the DNA in D? If not, you haven't event nearly tried the car. The first gen Giulietta had cheap interiour, but the second (and third) gen is really good. My mom has got a Giulietta 170hp TCT QV-line petrol and I loooove it. I trade my SUV with her any time I can, and it is much more fun than most cars I've driven with less than 250hp.

Komor Uddin EXACTLY! When I returned the Guiletta to the dealership the woman who worked there greeted me with a smug wide-eyed level of expectation and asked " so what did ya think of the Alfa?" , the look of disappointment and confusion when I said I thought it was "ok but a I didn't like it, as I felt I was sat knock-kneed and the whole DNA hing was a bit crap was weirdly dismissive. Right then I knew I would never be accepted into the Church of Clarkson.

Jon Nerheim yup I had in D for a two hour drive on Motorways, A and B roads and honestly it was a bit fake, I used to drive an SUV and it was a nice break from one, and trust me I would take an Alfa over many Korean and some French hatchbacks but I really don't think they're as good as car journalists consider them to be.
