Nice run Carci. Interesting to hear your strategy and how you think about running a game youre a noob at, usually just used to seeing you play games you're very familiar with. Always enjoy watching your runs with commentary over them. Recently replayed this game and was surprised at how well the atompshere holds up. The squishy, murky, jittering PS1 textures just enhance the other-wordly vibe.

Memories... I got two copies of Dino Crisis as a gift, so i decided to change one back to the shop, and i took Silent Hill... I was already a massive Resident Evil's player, loved SH so much that i finished it in one day, from morning to evening... SH 1 and 2 are still the best and my favorites... They don't make survival-horrors like they used to, the 90s and early 2000s were the best gaming years for me...

Yeah... way back when graphics werent everything and instead of overblown trailers, promisses, pre releases, early acces, betas and ALL that jaz, gameing companies actually opted for makeing amazeing games as a selling point, rather than just ridiculous marketing campaigns

A good survival horror connects terror of the instincts to survive. This game paired brutality with the metaphysical which distinctly can, and will connect to our foundational instincts to survive. Let alone, the story is fairly solid. The man genuinely goes through a journey searching for his daughter.

I remember marathoning this, Shattered Memories and Silent Hill 2 for the first time after I really enjoyed P.T. Then Silent Hills got cancelled, and I felt like continuing the series would just set myself up for more disappointment.

Unfortunately, four and origins are where the series start going down, with 4 (I think) being the last of the games made in Japan. You can skip homecoming though, unless you go into it with the right mindset. Downpour is fine, just nowhere near the quality of the first 3 games.

@@mrgorath7005 dude back in 1999 this was the epitome of my nightmares. This game messed me up so bad hahaha I still get uneasy when I think about replaying it. It's the creepy monsters and darkness that does it for me. And the radio just fuels the fear

Makes me sad not to see Lisa's cutscene, which still gets to me to this day. However, you blew this game away in under 39 minutes, which is insane!! My 12 year old self back when this game came out spent weeks trying to get through this, drawing my own maps and using notes i made up to get through it. Nowhere is still one of the most confusing areas of the game.

I think there are bunch of reasons why people are fond of speedrunning old games. On top of sentiment value, their immortal replayability etc. they are imo in grand majority: -less random than newer games. -more speedrun friendly - actually newer ones have little speedrun value when a game is one big script (which newer games are in majority), What's the point of making speedrun tactics when every player MUST go through the same ROUTE to just finish the game?

It's not boring at all, they throw monsters at you immediately after the game starts, beyond when you get stuck on a puzzle or when you are confused about what door is which and wasting time in rooms you went to already, this game is pretty exciting and the story pacing is fairly fast.

@@KvltKommando I hate backtracking, and for example the piano puzzle in the school, without internet guides you could be stuck for months till you figure it out ... I've read many comment that people got stuck for weeks or months because back then there was no internet :D
