Still my go to channel for anything car related. I liked this as something a little different too. Nice one Sandro, and hope all is going well for you in 2021. See you in the next one! (also the voice over for Mothers @10:40 is the opposite of the top left text results - this is the one I was most interested in for doing my headlights, autosol just didn't "cut it". Could you clarify which is correct please?)

That's the boat I'm in. I recently discovered Mother's headlight restoration ability (where Meguiar's headlight restoration failed) and it's interesting you say Autosol won't do the job that well, cause I was meaning to try that next. Do you think mother's is safe to be used on car windows and side mirrors also, cause of course, there's a difference between plastic headlights and glass. Haven't tried it yet.

As a metal worker I say kudos for using all different types of metal as you understand the massive differences 👌🏽 Some polishes aren't even recommended for Chrome Plating. Some worse for wear metals will need a proper compound with a calico buff. But these are great for up keep of a machine polished finish. And chromes. Once I found the Meguiars NXT I kept it in my toolbox for the combination of finish & protection/weatherability it leaves behind. Shame i can't find it readily avail. Anymore. With the Mothers I found a more brilliant finish with the Mothers Billet Polish. And Autosol now has a larger range of products readily available for specific Metals from Aluminium to Gold etc. Which I find a much better finish than the OG autosol. Just my 2 cents. Once again, thanks again for yet another Unmatched review Sandro! Truly my go to channel for anything detailing.

Came back to add that I’ve used 3D One with a DA, soft foam pad, and high speed to polish delicate plated surfaces. I think as long as your surface isn’t really dealing with the elements for long (think musical instruments), go for a traditional wax that applies well and adds the gloss you like (Meguiars Deep Crystal is a good example). Two coats should suffice for a while. Can’t forget though about Finish Kare 1000P Hi-Temp Wax. Not the shiniest, but this stuff cures very hard and does what it says for pennies on the dollar. This remains a great video that serves as an example of for other testers and reviewers to follow.

One point is cost too. I just bought Mothers ~142ml for $10 at the local big auto chain store. Autosol was $20 for only 75ml - so twice the qty for half the price makes the Mothers 25% of the cost here (Canada) - is the mothers going to be 4x the elbow grease...im doubting it. Thanks heaps Sandro, I own my own Motorcycle detailing business here is Townsville, the majority of my customers are Harley owners so I see alot of metal and chrome polishing. I typically use 4 things when cleaning and polishing chrome and alloy on a Harley - 0000 Steal wool for chrome, Carpro Metallic Cut for my first initial clean/polish on alloy and then Mother's Mag&Aluminium polish over the top to add that pop. And then usually a coat of wax or I found Carpro Reload layered on a couple times also makes chrome pop really well as a sealant after the entire process. Going to try NV Lustre on this current bike I am detailing & correcting some alloy parts on. Cheers mate - love your channel and is my go to KZbin channel anything detailing!

@CarCraftAutoDetailing Жыл бұрын
Typically those corrosive spots on older aluminium are really fused to the metal so that a polish won’t be able to remove them. What can work is quite a more involved process in sanding back the aluminium with coarser grades of sand paper, to medium and then finer grades and then using heavy compounds to medium and finally your metal polish. Basically it’s a lengthy metal restoration required.

It depends... lol Evo is one of the best single layer coatings on the market, not cheap but fairly easy and forgiving to work with and as a single layer coating it’s very tough to beat. CQUK is amazingly value and if you don’t mind laying down 2-3 coats it looks and performs great if you’re willing to get the larger bottle and take the time to layer it. I’ve had both of them on my cars and been super with the results. UK3.0 + Sic is something I want to try next and see how it goes!

How do these work on like plastic chrome finish?
@CarCraftAutoDetailingАй бұрын
They can work well on plastic chrome like trims. The issue is that all those materials and trims are massively different so your results from one car to the next may also vary a lot. I worked on some where the outcome was fantastic and others where even a very light polish removed the chrome finish in an instant to reveal a copper like finish beneath- so just be careful. Typically I’ve found that on older cars those trims are safer and better quality to work on, while new cars - 2010 onwards - I don’t like to touch those trims at all, they are usually cheap and nasty with very thin and sensitive coatings.

Hi Sandro - great video as always. Just wondering how does something like metallicut compare to a paintwork cutting compound in terms of it's ability to remove defects. Something like Scholl S2/S20? I have scratches to remove from tailpipes and saw from another of your videos (a while ago) that you recommended traditional compounds in their place - or have the advances in metal polishes from CarPro etc made it a closer one to call now?
@CarCraftAutoDetailing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks and yes it would be interesting to test that out, but my gut feeling is that a coarse paint compound will tend to cut more in relation to swirls or scratches but it probably won’t finish as well as most metal polishes. Scratches can be quite difficult to remove from most metals, and equally difficult to refine compounding swirls so you may be in for quite a bit of work!

Until now I've been polishing by hand using a non-scratch scouring pad however I would like to make life easier and do it by machine. Any idea what machine and pad might be suitable for Alcoa alloy wheels? I've tried the Mothers Powerball however its just not durable enough.

If the wheels aren’t too intricate in design, a mini 3 DA such as the shine mate ex603 could work well, but if the rims are more complex on design you’ll need to drop down to a 2” or 1” polisher like the Rupes iBrid or Flex PXE 80 - which are quite expensive. If you have access to a good air compressor, the Rupes TA50 is a more affordable and brilliant mini polisher for wheels. The Shine mate microfibre pads are a great affordable option, and the lake county fibre cutting pads are even better but more expensive.

I had tried using a felt type buffer I purchased from Supercheap used in a Drill to do the bumpers and trim but wanted to know what is the best type of applicator to use in the drill or my Shinemate DA???? IE felt, microfibre, foam-like the Mother's Powerball???? I have found on the CHrome bumper I seem to be getting some scratching using the Drill/Supercheap buffing bit using either Autosol or Mothers. What or where can I get a QUALITY buffing bit to use to polish and remove the scratches????? I have used Autosol many times along with Mothers by hand using old flannel material shirts and got good results on the alloy wheels. But I want to do a more professional job on the chrome and other alloys like stainless steel. Any advice where to get some good buffing bits would be great.
@CarCraftAutoDetailing3 жыл бұрын
Because chrome’s amazing finish is created with chemical and electric treatments, it’s hard to remove things like noticeable scratches without dulling the finish and because chrome is generally plated you don’t won’t to go too hard as you may eat through the platting layer to the base metal. But you can still improve it without chasing the deeper scratches. It’s normal to get some hazing to start with if you’re using something like a wool pad on a drill or rotary and sometimes you have to get a little aggressive to level down the scratches. You then have to follow up with with something like a foam pad on a DA polisher to restore the shine. If you want to avoid getting to much haze to start with try a microfibre cutting pad with your metal polish as it tend to cut well and finish finish reasonably well on a DA polisher - something like a 3” mini polisher would be ideal. You could then switch to a foam polishing pad with the sand polish to restore maximum brilliance

It depends on what sort of condition they are in and if it’s an old school softer alloy, but if it is and they aren’t too bad, you may like the polishers here that finished better like Auto Finesse and Mothers, but if the rims need a little more work or the aluminium is a bit harder then California Customs or Metallicut may be a better choice.
