Honestly amazing, I sorted in a similar way before, slightly different, but this super simplifies it! I had almost 2000 cards to sort and was looking for different ways. Watched your video twice and gave it a shot. Love it! This is exactly how I will do it from now on!

Just found this video and happened to have about 500 random '24 Series 2 cards on my desk. Tried out your method, and it's way faster than how I usually sort! I always separated into 000's, 100's, 200's, etc. Then I would separate into piles on the 10's digit, then sort those piles. So I would have fewer rounds of separation, but then I'd have lots of piles that I sorted by hand. With your method, it's just 3 rounds of separation, then BOOM, sorted! I love it! (this is not sarcasm, as you've questioned in a lot of your replies!)

Great video. Interesting technique. I'm surprised no one has mentioned or noticed the flaw in this method though. It appears you have lost card 298 once you are finished. At the 6:13 second mark you can clearly see card 298 at the top of the 1's stack. It's a common mistake when sorting large numbers of cards. No telling how many others made the incorrect stack as well. It's hard to catch when sorting this way short of looking at every card when you are done to ensure things are in order. When sorting a more traditional 100's first, 10's second, 1's last method the misplacement of a card or two is easily found.

Thanks!! I used to do it like most people, sort by 100s, then 10s, then 1s...... But this method works better but you have to program your brain a little bit differently to get used to it.

This video is hilarious because I've been there. I think I sorted maybe over 10,000+ cards when the virus hit. I have mine by set manufacturer, then by year then finally by number as if a complete set would be. Now I just rip open a pack and it immediately goes in the numbered ordered set. I don't like stacking my cards all over so it just gets dropped into the 800 or 5,000 count box right from the pack. I'm overly cautious of the quality of my cards, even the commons. There's always a buyer for everything so my quality control game is on point. You definitely have a different way to sort them. Thanks for sharing

Great video! When you are doing the first round where do you place 2 number cards like 89, 78, 56? Do they go in the 9,8,6 pile or the 0 pile? Hope that makes sense.
@DavidGonos2 жыл бұрын
They should go in the 9, 8, 6 piles first. Glad you enjoyed it! It takes a little while to get it down right. Try a small group of cards first, like 50 cards or so, just to get the orders down right.

I sort my cards by player. Only touch the cards one time. Your way works but for me it involves touching the cards too many times.

So you make over 300 piles of cards to sort 300 players? I need them in order to find them quickly. Sorting by player seems like a lot more work for less payoff.

@DavidGonos8 күн бұрын

I know that people sort by team and by number, but is there a way that is considered the standard, the usual way that sports card collectors sort their cards?
@DavidGonos3 ай бұрын
Not really. That’s part of the beauty of collecting cards, you can do it however you like. What I’ll do is pull out the superstar cards and rookie cards, put them in Penny sleeves (and Toploaders if the cards have enough promise), then I’ll sort all the rest of those cards by number, so if I need to look for one, it’s easier to find it.
@ReplayDugout3 ай бұрын
@@DavidGonos How do you find a card by number? Is there a web site that lists player name and card number so if you want to find, say, 1984 Marty Castillo, you can look for card number 234 (just made that up)? I worked my way through your entire 101 playlist. Good stuff, very helpful, thank you. You have a new subscriber. 👍

Can you tell me what the name of this sort is? Or a demo of how you would sort over 1000? I have 8500 cards to sort and very much enjoyed watching your method but don’t know what happens over 999. Thanks! 👍
@DavidGonos Жыл бұрын
I don’t have a name for it, unfortunately, and I really don’t remember even how I learned it 30 years ago. But as long as the set numbering isn’t over 1,000, you will be ok sorting just like this. If I were you, since there are so many cards, I would first do a run through and separate all the 100s from each other. Like the ones starting in 100, the ones starting in 200, etc. Then I’d use this system for each pile. Hope that helps using the “Gonos Sorting Method” haha!

I was doing that but I found when you are go through say 120-129, you have having to shift cards around, insert say #123 in between 122 and 124 and so forth making you handle the cards and time wise more often.

Wow I’m getting old. Just used this method to sort about 2200 cards. All in order in about four hours. No idea if this is fast. Never tried to do this many cards before. Seemed decent, but my back hurts. Method worked great though. Problem is, I thought “now what boxes can I put them in?” As I look at an 800 count box still full of unsorted cards from the same set. Now I get to sort those 800 with the same method, THEN collate the sets together. 😢
