I Agree. I’m a huge Rapsody fan. But remember sex always sell and in order for these female rappers to be acknowledged they have to sell sex. The industry know that, that concept has always worked and they don’t want to change. If Lauryn was still in the game then who knows what female rappers would look like today. Yes we had the Queen Latifah and the McLyte and the Yoyo back in the day but you saw how fast people got over that style of rap because they weren’t willing to show skin and take their clothes off. But then here comes Lil Kim and Foxy Brown who were able to stay in the game longer because they were edgy and sexual. That paved the way for the Nicki Minaj and Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion of the world. You can be educated, smart and intelligent. That doesn’t matter they just want to see your body.

We forget how powerful the media is and how much images, especially sexual images, skew our perceptions of people, even groups of people. In a time where we are fighting for black women to be respected in a plethora of diverse spaces and fighting against the overt sexualisation of the black female form, I'm sorry, but this video felt so counter-revolutionary. We live in the age of the Internet, and young people will undoubtedly see WAP because parents cannot police what they watch 247, especially on KZbin. For a young person seeing 'WAP' who doesn't have the critical thinking cap to perceive these women as living out their "carefree black girl" lives, what message is being sent? And how does this impact their perception of black women and girls? Artists have a responsibility whether they like it or not. I hold black artists to a certain standard because I am a black person fully aware of the issues which plague our communities. Sadly, we are in this space where people are afraid to challenge such art without being called anti-feminist etc. But yeah, this video felt deeply uncomfortable to watch.
@MissOshunPossible4 жыл бұрын
You are correct but we can't rely on artist to make decisions. This is soft porn and it should not qualify to be on KZbin let alone public television. I will be writing my congressman about this. A few congresswomen have stated we need a van on such music and I agree. Should it meet the house floor I hope they vote for America and stop this from happening to our young folks.

@MsEllaHamilton4 жыл бұрын
If women embrace, own and feel empowered by their sexuality they take the power away from men. Anyone who is offended by that video because they believe it’s salacious they need to ask themselves why? Why are they ashamed embarrassed and offended by the celebration of sex and women who are comfortable with showing their bodies and expressing their sexual creativity? Personally, I think the only people who are offended by the video and it’s lyrics are people who have been taught that sex is shameful and something only men enjoy and women suffer through.

How disheartening it is to hear middle aged black women champion and defend such debauchery that's been targeted towards the black community within the last 25 years. There isn't anything uplifting or empowering about a music video that's being seen on a global scale which depicts black women in an absolute demeaning manner. The mass production of destruction within the black community by the music industry has destroyed us as a people and middle aged women defending this garbage is half the proof. Also their proximity to Asia says to me they have more DNA share with Middle East than with western or Central Europe. Nothing wrong with being middle eastern non white person that Armenians are. Don’t think anyone who’s European will ever claim Armenians to be sharing same culture with them...they just don’t...same as Turks, they aren’t European. Young Kourtney, Kim and Rob actually looked very Indian or Arab to me. This is before the Kardashian girls changed their ethnic look and made it a bit more white, fixing their noses and then added Black features of smaller waists and bigger arses so to come off as some type of ambiguous ppl when all they are is half Asian and half white

I'm over 40 now and I've watched all three of the women on the panel for at least the last 20 years in Hollyweird. I usually agree with their points of view bc it's given from an older perspective. However, for the first time, I'm greatly disappointed and a bit disgusted by such liberal acceptance of this smut called WAP. And as far as Ms. Fox is concerned, her womb is mother to no one, so she doesn't share the same concerns as we parents do, like morality and preserving our children's innocence as long as we possibly can. It's amazing to me the lengths that these Hollyweird bots will go to in order to protect their coins in the face of blatant satanic wickedness. Even Cardi admitted on the Breakfast Club that she wouldn't allow her own daughter to watch the video until she is older. SO WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU?!?

@@naturalfabulosity I understand and do agree with you. But can we keep it 100 for a moment? This is 2020. We're living in the age of information when everything is at your fingertips, literally. So even the most cautious parent who takes the time to set parental controls on all devices in the home and informs their children of what they should and should not be consuming, that child will see and hear anyway because they live in this world too. Meaning, radio and TV commercials, movies, etc. Not to mention the dialog and activities when they get around their peers. You cannot shield your children from everything; just like when your mother said no, you probably found a way to do it anyway. My point is, that standards of decency in society are so far removed from where and what we used to be.

Y’all clearly don’t like Nicki. I’m not even a fan of hers, but it’s very evident. She wasn’t the only Femcee to have beef. EVERY female rapper in history has had a beef except for Lauryn Hill, Missy, and Megan. Queen Latifa even beefed with Foxy and Queen Penn. Kim beefed with everybody (Charli Baltimore, Foxy, Remy, Eve, Nicki). Everyone has had beef, male or female because rap is a sport - it’s competitive by nature. Y’all just don’t like Nicki and it shows in your commentary. Y’all are truly not informed on Female rap history and are coming off like a fan page instead an accurate and professional blog. It’s sad that Black women are all about empowerment until it involves Beyoncé or Nicki. What would’ve been nice to see LisaRaye say is “proud to see women collaborate; lately a lot of the girl have been collabing, Nicki & Meg, Nicki & Doja, Kim & City Girls, now Cardi and Meg. I wish Nicki or Kim would’ve walked down that hall instead of Kylie” or something to that regard. She completely disregarded all the rap collabs that have happened in the past year to be shady, while trying to preach about unity. You can’t preach empowerment, while trying to degrade another woman. Bitter & Sweet can’t come from the same fountain!

Instead she said, “well it’s only 1 that is divisive and that’s Nicki,” which is false. Especially since Nicki has the MOST female rap collabs (8).

It's just my opinion! However I was really disappointed over this commentary with the ladies. They are old enough to be these young woman's mothers. And would you want your daughter dancing to these songs or dropping it while it's hot. Black women across the world are made to be just sex objects and we must not be ok with that. As elders they should be ashamed of themselves. Not setting a good example at all. Thats what the problem is you have older black women not telling young women the truth on how to act like a lady. Babk in the day you would have the elders telling you some good stuff about being respectful to yourself and having self respect.

My stated point is they are within their rights to say it, produce it, trend it..etc. and it is within my right to mentally turn it off. I am not naive to believe that "grown adults" have 2 different conversations a "personal conversation" and a "public conversation". I feel we all do that, so be it. And as I know and someone mention, it is the parent's responsibility..yes..yes..yes..by the same token, there is some level of community responsibility if we are truly are "our brother's keeper" To the point of your question, if I had a daughter, I will do what I can to teach them critical thinking early enough so they will make their own decisions. I do my best to not be overly critical or analyze too much, but I realize at the end of the day, art is an expression and there are many forms, so the fact this is their art and expression...oh well to each his/her own.
