I just got an ‘11 cvpi and your right on all counts-the way it rises when you step on it, the way it coasts on its own inertia, the feeling of a column shifter, the giant go kart aspect of the handling, it’s great!!! Sad to see these things slowly fading away the last great American body on frame warship lol cheap and easy to fix even after pretty big collisions. Ford should be ashamed of the new interceptors. Cool ex-cop Crown Vic. Yeah, the P71 is stiffer than the regular version, but the difference isn't THAT much, same goes with performance. The police and civilian models are actually about the same between each other, with the former adjusted a bit for their hard use. I have a Crown Victoria, too, though way older, an '89 LX. Most Vic's have the overdrive cancel button wires cut. It's a easy fix and makes a big difference for in city driving not engaging overdrive. I think fuel economy is the main reason for the Vic's retirement. That squeak could be the hood latch. I greased and adjusted mine and my car is like a brand new car no squeaks no rattles.
@CarDietrich3 жыл бұрын
My OD cancel button works fine, I don't mind gliding through town anyway. And thanks for the tip but I don't think its my hood latch, that was one of the very few parts I had to replace on the car so its got a brand new OEM hood latch that's less than six months old. It sounds like its coming from the driver's door area.

The reason why the Panther platform retired was because in 2012, the stability controls came and unfortunately the Ford couldn't get that put on, plus it was already outdated by then.

CVPI was not intended to be the fastest king of the highway, the cops would catch you by radioing ahead for backup with support from eye in the sky. No one fears these as the ''five O" anymore, they are run mostly by collectors, private security companies, second tier taxis, and just owners who had 'em already for a long time. Fun, easy, and safe to drive and comfortable on a long trip.

The police interceptors had a different engine control unit, and they all came standard with dual exhaust which was optional on the civilian models, and the exhaust was what Ford called “low restriction exhaust” which means the resonators were removed which makes it louder

Excellent American car mate...any tips on buying one used, as rgds transmission etc?
@CarDietrich3 жыл бұрын
Well I bought mine at auction so there was a lot of luck involved for me because I couldn't inspect the car before I bought it. If you can inspect it before hand, check the transmission fluid using a white paper towel or napkin. The closer it is to bright red, the better. The more brown it is, the more likely the transmission has serious issues due to lack of maintenance. On the test drive get the car warmed up and give it heavy throttle and make sure it accelerates strongly and doesn't slip. The good news with the Crown Victoria is that if it does need a new transmission it's not expensive to put it in (as far as transmissions go). You should be able to get a rebuilt one put in for about a grand. It's the same transmission they used in the F-150 so it's common as dirt.

What torque converter did the P7B have though? p71 had better harder shifting high stalls I think some of em!
@CarDietrich3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure exactly what torque converter is in the P7B, but I know that the 2009-2011 Crown Vics use a different transmission fluid (Mercon LV) than the 2008 and earlier models (Mercon V), so it might be a different torque converter in the later models.

So they replaced that bolt free of charge since it's a recall? And this can be done at any ford dealership? Just take it to the dealership and ask about the recall?
@CarDietrich Жыл бұрын
Yes it was free, and if your Crown Vic has the open recall they will do it for you too. If you search “check recall status NHTSA” you can find a website where you can type in your VIN to see if any recalls are open on your car.

What the civilian model should have been actually even some of the F150 with the same engine size have the sluggish gearing and early upshifts automatic transmission programming wonder whether there was a reason why police depts. bought them without limited slip rear mostly? Does the taller axle ratio (3.27)? get 25 mpg on highway ? civilian model gets Worse mpg because won't pull overdrive on slight highway grades?
@CarDietrich3 жыл бұрын
The highest number I've seen on mine with the 3.55 rear is 23 MPG highway, and a previous CVPI I rented a couple years ago did do 25 MPG on my fuel economy loop, and I think it had the 3.27 rear end, so yes if you drive conservatively you can get 25 MPG out of a 3.27. 129mph with the 3.55s. You can get more top speed with the 3.55s but you will need to get some performance parts added(swapped) in the rear differential and take it to a tuner shop to bypass the ecu that limits the speed(gears).

Your comment made me chuckle, since I've had my own bad experience with these cars. A lot of people praise this platform as the end-all be-all car ever made. Yes, they're decent cars, but they were made at a time when American car companies were producing pure garbage. Anything and everything can go wrong.
