I would say for a 10 gallon, probably 6-8, maybe 10

Follow the inch per gallon rule. Look up the maximum size that they’ll get and then divide that by gallons. (Aka if it’s 2 inches at max size then you can have 5) but they aren’t very suitable for a 10 gallon tank because they are schooling fish and require 6+ for them to be happy and healthy.

I bought 10 cardinal and 10 black tetras on my 15 days old 63 gallon aquarium.. i bouth them after 10 days so 3 days ago.. and all my 10 cardinal diead in the span of 3 days why? The black ones are still alive and looks healthy.. together with my two dwarf gourami.. i just hope they whont die soon too?

if you're going to do fish in cycle and you get ammonia or nitrite spike, use lots of Seachem Prime. Prime binds harmful ammonia and nitrite into inert form for about 24~48 hours and hopefully in that time bacteria eats it up or your plants do. Plants prefer nitrates but they can also use up ammonia and nitrites. So it help to have tons of live plants (with enough LED lighting) and use Seachem Prime to keep the fish safe. You can also do water change but unless the spike is really bad don't do too much water change because all you're doing is delaying the cycling process by physically removing ammonia and nitrites, not giving enough time for beneficial bacteria to multiply. But obviously use your common sense, if your ammonia and nitrite spike is way too high then you must to water change first and also use Prime.

If I have unexpected ammonia or nitrite hike (usually due to too much feeding or uneaten food rotting) I use Seachem Prime everyday 4~5x regular dosage until the readings are back to zero.
