If a gay couple should not reject sin but choose love, why would they seek marriage and Church blessing? - Could they just simply have sex? This matter does not look straightforward at all. Remembering that the sins of soul are much more mortal than the sins of body, can we allow ourselves to fall into spiritual sins of self-righteousness and judging while pretending to fight bodily sins of homosexual people?

I think it’s trite to say the Pope has given these answers negating the need for the Synod. He has made an opening statement but neither answer is intended to be the last word. Further points of view are always helpful!

The Synod was superfluous from the beginning. Not needed and indeed in danger of being hijacked. What is needed is a way of mending fronts, real pastoral (and missionary!) approaches, giving people an audience and continuing along the path of the faith handed over and fastened In the Bible. We cannot shut our eyes from the fact that more than half the population has been affected by divorce - and abortion. How can we evangelize them... That is the question. Not: How do we keep ourselves pure. That is our task anyway...

@@Jimboken1 Brother, this was not meant as a tee-off for some ironical comments that make a discussion about tactical approach impossible. I am a former senior exec for a major airline and now one of the lay stewards of a 24-hour adoration church in the middle of Berlin. Daily Mass, adoration and regular confession (our assault and hospital church offers two to four masses a day and 16 hours of confession) is a given. We will never bless same-sex unions or "second marriages"... But we need an approach to both e.g. for cases where these "unions" exist for more than 10 years (homosexuals seldom have that anyway...)... We need something to bring these people to conversion (and help potential children to become Catholics)... "Separate or go to hell" is not the best approach. What is your suggestion - if you are at all involved in real-life ministry...? God bless you!!

@@Jimboken1 Thank you for pointing that document out. I totally agree with it. Only chaste couples with no homosexual activity can be blessed. As for "re-married" divorced (abandoned) people... I agree that marriage is impossible as indissoluble. But given the prevalence of the problem - and the role of the Church in testifying many ill-advised sacraments of so many ill-prepared and ill-fitted people... Where is the Church as a guardian and advisor and attorney of sanctity and sacraments before marriage? There is a certain duty for helping solve the problems created by bad guidance. God's speed.

@@JPGoertz TESTIMONY TO THE POWER OF GRACE: ON THE INDISSOLUBILITY OF MARRIAGE AND THE DEBATE CONCERNING THE CIVILLY REMARRIED AND THE SACRAMENTS* Archbishop Gerhard Ludwig Müller Oct 2013 "Even if there is no possibility of admitting remarried divorcees to the sacraments, in view of their intrinsic nature, it is all the more imperative to show pastoral concern for these members of the faithful, so as to point them clearly towards what the theology of revelation and the Magisterium have to say. The path indicated by the Church is not easy for those concerned. Yet they should know and sense that the Church as a community of salvation accompanies them on their journey. Insofar as the parties make an effort to understand the Church’s practice and to abstain from communion, they provide their own testimony to the indissolubility of marriage."

God is not changing, but His earthly church and our understanding of God and His ways must be developing. It is why we have from Him the Old and New Testaments, prophets, teachers, etc. - to help our souls in reaching the most achievable harmony with God during our material existence. This development can only be completed with the cessation of our material life, and to stop this changing would mean our spiritual death before the material one. The time has come to accept that homosexuality is not a sin, but some homosexual behaviour as well as heterosexual one can be sinful.

Yep! It amazes me the huge quantity of ones whom still would like to live in the middle ages... Meanwhile; this is a very minimal subject that don't interest really anybody else, apart the few ones suffering from it, and the other few ones obsessed with it because they're those badly sexually resolved ones... Many of whom hidden within the clergy ranks of whatever Church maybe, Catholic, Protestant or Orthodox. Obviously having a full celibate male hierarchy helps the proportion of those badly sexually resolving being larger than on other Churches. That's it... We have far larger problems to deal with on subjects really impacting our day to day lives. Not those ones, frankly!... How to solve? I have no magic wands, but the Gen Z is answering with their feet. Even here on the then very conservative Catholic rural areas, the youth is leaving the faith in droves. How I understand them.

Childish, if not devious, from you Mr Allen to trivialize dubia submitted by 5 cardinals. And definitely devious to trivialize given answers. The most potent - in my opinion heretical - is reply about conscience. It states, I believe, that the role of conscience is not to recognize the good and evil as instituted/prescribed/ordered by the God but to recognize what is good and bad for an individual. And that is heretical.

What exactly is to be determined on a 'case by case' basis for the blessing of same-sex marriages? A blessing is approval. So whether you call it marriage or a relationship blessing, it is essentially saying the very essence of what is being blessed is no longer a sin. But, you can't bless sin, right? Hmmmmm.......We got through the Arian heresies, we will get through this because God is always faithful, but oh dear, it's going to be a bumpy ride for faithful, orthodox Catholics.

My wife and I thought of a couple of scenarios: #1 a same sex couple just had their kid baptized and asked the priest/deacon for a family blessing. The priest should understand that the blessing is for guiding the parents to allow the child to grow in Catholic faith. And I hope the godparents are a sacramentally married couple. Then, I would say, yes, the blessing is acceptable. Scenario #2, a same sex couple has promised to live as brothers or sisters and ask a priest/deacon for a blessing to strengthen their will for celibacy. Let's say, the priest/deacon knows them and believes their spirituality is genuine. Then, I'd say, the blessing is acceptable. Case by case makes it hard for our priests/deacons, so please pray for them; but at the end, it makes sense.
@Jimboken1
@Jimboken1 Жыл бұрын
@@RaulRamirez-nx5sb What utter tosh. Pretty much every priest would baptise and bless a child if asked. Blessing a same sex union is quite different. CONGREGATION FOR THE DOCTRINE OF THE FAITH LETTER TO THE BISHOPS OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH ON THE PASTORAL CARE OF HOMOSEXUAL PERSONS from Cardinal Ratzinger 1986: "Nevertheless, increasing numbers of people today, even within the Church, are bringing enormous pressure to bear on the Church to accept the homosexual condition as though it were not disordered and to condone homosexual activity. Those within the Church who argue in this fashion often have close ties with those with similar views outside it. These latter groups are guided by a vision opposed to the truth about the human person, which is fully disclosed in the mystery of Christ. They reflect, even if not entirely consciously, a materialistic ideology which denies the transcendent nature of the human person as well as the supernatural vocation of every individual. The Church's ministers must ensure that homosexual persons in their care will not be misled by this point of view, so profoundly opposed to the teaching of the Church. But the risk is great and there are many who seek to create confusion regarding the Church's position, and then to use that confusion to their own advantage. 9. The movement within the Church, which takes the form of pressure groups of various names and sizes, attempts to give the impression that it represents all homosexual persons who are Catholics. As a matter of fact, its membership is by and large restricted to those who either ignore the teaching of the Church or seek somehow to undermine it. It brings together under the aegis of Catholicism homosexual persons who have no intention of abandoning their homosexual behaviour. One tactic used is to protest that any and all criticism of or reservations about homosexual people, their activity and lifestyle, are simply diverse forms of unjust discrimination. There is an effort in some countries to manipulate the Church by gaining the often well-intentioned support of her pastors with a view to changing civil-statutes and laws. This is done in order to conform to these pressure groups' concept that homosexuality is at least a completely harmless, if not an entirely good, thing. Even when the practice of homosexuality may seriously threaten the lives and well-being of a large number of people, its advocates remain undeterred and refuse to consider the magnitude of the risks involved. The Church can never be so callous. It is true that her clear position cannot be revised by pressure from civil legislation or the trend of the moment. But she is really concerned about the many who are not represented by the pro-homosexual movement and about those who may have been tempted to believe its deceitful propaganda. She is also aware that the view that homosexual activity is equivalent to, or as acceptable as, the sexual expression of conjugal love has a direct impact on society's understanding of the nature and rights of the family and puts them in jeopardy."

Pope Benedict XVI is my favorite pope. Thank you for quoting. I agree that same sex couples are not to be blessed if the intent is to ask God for graces when their relationship is not celibate. My inquiry is about a same sex couple who has a child and asks for a family blessing. How is that different from a single parent who conceived out of wedlock? Shouldn't in both cases the priest form a relationship and determine if the blessings will profit the family? What if the adults are open to allow the Holy Ghost to guide them?

@@RaulRamirez-nx5sb Did they train you to write: "Pope Benedict XVI is my favorite pope" in your 'Rules for Radicals' workshop? In that document quoted Benedict points to the fact that active homosexuality is the main but not the only difficulty. He points to the fact that this is a wilful movement seeking concessions and a field of discourse on their terms and comes from enemies of the Church from within and without. Love is that this disposition and the movement behind it has to be recognised as intrinsically disordered. The movement is not sincere and does not emanate from sincere Catholics who are afflicted with same sex attraction.

Well: Very interesting analysis, congrats. First of its all: I believe Pope Francis decided to answer the cardinals with a quasi non answer as a gesture of mercy for them, whom in any case are all very ageing man, 2 of them non electable now, 1 will be non electable in 2 years, and the other 2 will be non electable in just 4 years and some months. Nobody would have known about them if this wasn't published or it should have been bad press on the Pope if he hasn't answered the way he answered!... Bravo Pope Francis once again for being whom you are!... Regarding those 5 ones? The 3 usual suspects plus the 2 geriatric acolytes... Next. Regarding the Synod: it is the beginning of the conversation, perhaps the preamble of the preamble. Those "hot" questions will still be with us for some more 10-20 years to come with pressure for change in Europe just growing by the day as the pedo scandals seems to not end up anytime soon. And, you know, in Church matters usually Europe rules... Or in less nice words: Rome dictates... Regarding my best bet for the final outfit of its all far away from us, likely by 2030 or even later... Pope Francis let us with a pearl on the answers to the Cardinals: He doesn't want women Priests... But he wants Ecumenism and to in some ways to recognize Anglicans (and let us to be frank, Lutheran) Orders... It is like to say: No, no, but hey, if you want call the next door and all will be as good as here!... So... My best bet is that: In summary; nothing of substance will change from this Synod... But they'll find a way forward so that the progressive Anglicans and Lutherans, and the progressive Catholics would to feel at home within the Christian Family while the moderately conservatives do feel at home within the Roman Rite!... Confusing? It mighty to be, but there may be a way to make that happen. Regarding the rad trads? Those will find a way forward for schism. They're with a foot inside and one outside right now nonetheless. And other than on the social media outlets, they're basically a handful of them all. Who cares? Next. Let Pope Francis to live some more wonderful 5 years or more and all of the few ones remaining on the electable Cardinal's college will be gone for good. Good riddance, nonetheless!...

Other than northern Europe and maybe some quarters in the US Church, there is no pushing for change these days in the Roman Catholic Church. There is no momentum for that these days. Pope Francis and the Vatican more than know this, hence the lukewarm statements they're providing for now. But they also know they can't say a strong "no" on Germany for a multitude of reasons, financial and diplomatic ones (don't forget the Vatican City is a state among other things; observer member of the European Union, where Germany is a full and founder member, for the matter. Too much pedo priests scandals on Germany these days and the general public don't want to be them paying for that disgrace through the religious tax system without what they feel as true preventive compromises), they'll likely to let diplomacy to deal with it (I have sort of worked on the financial diplomatic field years ago which gives me that humble sensibility...).
