+AEROTRAP Who's "They"? I thought it was one junk sports analyst who obviously had a bad year in fantasy football. If anything, the franchise has gained more followers, and with that attention comes the criticism. Apparently Carolina fans can't take the heat either. My friend works for a company that sells NFL merch out of Ottawa. They sold out all Panthers gear (toques, caps, jerseys, lanyards, bobbleheads) just after Christmas. You want to tell me that the Panthers only attract hate?

***** The Panthers are not the ones being talked down to, they do all the talking down for themselves. "Nobody believed in us." Pretty sure a lot of people did. Otherwise they'd have an empty stadium in Charlotte to play for. They ended the previous season in good standing, with a healthy roster, people remarking on their impressive consequetive winning streak, and how in spite of losing their number one receiver, they still managed to win. I think the real change in focus for their team was when they went to Seattle and beat the Seahawks at home. After that, people started paying them their dues, but not their platitudes. But still, Panthers fans saw others' reserved excitement as an imagined slight. There are plenty of other teams who receive more negative attention than Carolina. To think that every other person who watches the NFL, and who doesn't wear the blue and black, are foaming at the mouth with rage at the Panthers success is just dumb. Sweeping overgeneralized statements are easy to make, and difficult to back up.

+AEROTRAP Not what I heard. Not what I saw reported. And that summary of the season is something another Panthers fan wrote up after reading the comments of other NFL fans on message boards. You hear only what you want to hear, and read what you want to read. The Panthers are not the underdog of the season, and they were never made out to be. They have an All Pro roster, a coach who played in the Super Bowl winning 1985 Bears, a dedicated NC fan base, multi millions in endorsements and merchandising, a wealthy owner, and a chance to win in the biggest game of the year. You see why everyone has an issue with Panthers fans? is that no matter how much praise their team gets its still not enough.

Carolina knocked the snot out of my Cardinals but this blowout wasn't a measuring stick of how the two teams stacked up. If Palmer knew how to perform in a playoff game and the defense played like they did all year long it would have been a back-and-fourth battle right to the end. Instead they decided to, collectively, have their worst game of the season. I'd like to see the Broncos win because I would like to see Manning go out on top but I don't have much confidence that that's going to happen.
