I had the pleasure of meeting Matt and taking one of his tours last week. He’s a very personable, friendly and funny guy...and very smart and knowledgeable.

Matt, is the master of education and comedy and these together, make the more "meat-and-potatoes" information more memorable and easier to remember. The knowledge,humor and enthusiasm shown by M.Atkinson in his programs is fantastic!

I have always herd a confederate surgeon made the discovery that bowling Horse Hair was in actuality sterilizing the Hair. The surgeon documented wins with an boiled horse hair did not recover faster than patience with boiled horse hair. the reason for the horse hair was for stitching wounds . due to the federal blockade, the Doctor only had Horse left to use for stitching. By accident the doctor found this information out. The only reason the doctor would boil the horse hair was to make the hair more pliable to use.

The rings on the Minie ball are called cannulars manly to hold grease to make loading easier and the British version is called a Pritchet bullet no rings and a clay or iron plug in the base so when fired it was forced into the base to expand into the rifling

My best friend told that the reason why there was so many casualties in the war was basically this: 19th Century weapons used with 18th Century tactics

Sometimes the audio is very low. However this particular lecture subject I’ve heard from other rangers. All are very good with the information presented. I agree that some other comments that Matt Atkinson is easy to follow. The audience doesn’t need deep medical lectures just this general information.

so alot of what mat was saying about the breach loading weapons the us didnt have that issue as we used drawn brass cases like modern ammo making it rare but the brits with the martini Henry it suffered from having to dig out spent cases due to using a brass foil to make the cartage case

He said at the battle of Little Big Horn that happened, which I also recall having read somewhere. Think it may have been reported by the Indians that stormed last stand hill.

It's weird about the Ranger he talked about that jogged everyday. I personally knew two people that were health nuts that jogged everyday. Both of them died of massive heart attacks-and yes, I've known plenty of people like his grandma that smoked like a chimney yet lived well into their 80's. Anyway, I really wanted to make it out to Gettysburg this summer and get a tour with Ranger Matt, but this whole shamdemic thing put the snuffer on that idea.

To put it in perspective, in 1939 the US Army numbered 150,000. The Rumanian army was 200,000. We didn't learn much in 80 years.

I love your talks but putting an advertisement every 3 to 5 min. makes viewing almost painful. None of the vids I've watched before are like this. Are you being censored in this way?

At around 4:30 in this video. Dr. Matt says, "The average age of a Civil War soldier was 25.6 years old. I jump out of my seat and SCREAMED "LIAR~!!!! It was 25.8". I was asked to leave. Appreariantly they didn't see the humor. It was deleted from this video. No. That didn't happen. But, how funny would that have been. PS. I "Like" Matt. -Bill Howes.

It is extremely hard to be interesting and keep people engaged for more than 10 minutes just spewing facts, figures and timelines. I think everyone has a grasp of the horrors of war. We try turn people on to history rather than bore them away.

@@jumpmaster82nd. People do not go to Gettysburg to see clowning. Ranger Matt gets close to that line even while being serious in his explanations.

You have to know your audience. It sounds like there are a lot of children there so you have to make the presentation entertaining to them while keeping a horrible experience family friendly. Having been recorded in 2017 and some of the previous videos in 2013-2014 some of the audience members may have had a family member injured in Iraq or Afghanistan and have experienced first hand that horror and a bit of the park ranger's humor lightens up a very heavy experience.
@marosenmd2942 жыл бұрын
@@chriskule4663 ............clowning ? are you kidding. You and Jumpmaster 82 need to realize that death and gore are not well tolerated by all members of general public (adults), kids who are present in that tent have to be considered as well. Your suggestion that everyone wants the medical issues (death , gore) straight at G'burg is born out of ignorance, both of you need to rethink your opinion. I'm a retired physician, and served in Naval Reserve. To suggest that Matt was "clowning" serves as proof that U R a knucklehead!

Its likely your computer. Much of the audio is low from all kinds of sites. I have my laptop video output plugged into a large Samsung display AND the headphone output plugged into a Kenwood Power Amp (200 watts rms/channel) and Kernwood output into a pair of JBL Century L100 Studio Monitor Speakers........I can hear Matt on the next floor! You need to invest a few bucks to upgrade you're system. Stopped relying on the audio from laptop or desktop as a sole source for audio. The built in speakers are shit and wearing headphones sucks. All the college kids use their computers as entertainment centers, and they leave the cable and fios at their parents homes and hook up to displays and stereo/external audio equip. The internet is free and you can stream most everything available on cable and watch KZbin. Except a few commercials on some programs and none on most. No monthly bill for TV either. Time to join the 21st Century. I did and I'll be 73.
