I've been in the trade for 25 years and trained more people than I can count. It definitely has it's ups and downs depending on which field your mostly interested in. The shipyard has been the most profitable so far overall. Then industrial after that commercial than residential. In that order for me at least with a pay scale with residential being the lowest raging from 25,000 to 33,000 a year depending on the businesses demand for its services. The shipyards range from 45,000 to 120,000 a year with a lot of hours. 7 days a week 10 to 12 hours a day.

So what exactly is this job? What do the insulators do? Do they just insulate pipes and pipe systems or do they create the insulation itself? Thanks

As an insulator you only put the material (insulation) on piping systems, vessels, etc. You dont make the insulation itself no, you get the material and form the material to fit on whatever it is that needs to be insulated. And by form the material, I mean cut it to fit. Also theres metal work, for instance in the refineries, you have to install metal jacketing over the insulation. Basically as an insulator your job is to take insulation, metal, or whatever and fit it on whatever you need to put it on

Most contractors bid a roll to roll and a half, I’m hard money jobs. Do you get two or three that’s definitely. Unless you’re talking about great big duck work.
