Regarding medical scientific writing, try applying to medical communication agencies, where most of the jobs are at. You can work as a medical writer or an account executive, and still use your science skills for helping pharma clients with publications. Noone talks much about these companies but there are more opportunities there than a university or media company. The big companies include oxford pharmagenesis, nucleus global, apothecom, and Fleischman Hillard.

I’m in a gap year and I’m 19 now. I work full time in customer service and I got an unconditional for biomedical science. My colleagues mocked me and said it’s useless. The people I work with think that a woman’s job is to stay at home and look after the kids so they keep telling me that university is useless even though they all have degrees like pharmacy. Etc. I have anxiety and when people say things like this I overworry myself and cry a lot. These thoughts keep spiralling around in my mind that my degree is useless and I should just give up. I have low self esteem and I don’t know how to take peoples words sometimes. I usually keep quiet and let them say what they want but it still gets to me. Is my degree really useless? I’m sad.

Hi! Thanks for the suggestion, will add that to my list of videos 😁 Organic chemistry isn’t really in the scope of biomed - it’s more likely to be a big part of Biochemistry degree so don’t worry about that 😊 As for it being hard, if it was easy then it wouldn’t be as interesting 😉 If you enjoy it then you’ll be fine

Research Diaries I think the IBMS accredited degrees include a large proportion of chemistry in general because of their requirement to teach biochemistry as the pathology discipline. Organic chemistry for me was lumped into first year when they taught broad chemistry, second year there was a small amount but only that which was relevant to human biochemistry, and the final year there was essentially none!

I am an international student who completed his masters in molecular genetics from University of Nottingham. As an international is there an alternative to HCPC or its compulsory for everyone to register?
@thod29873 жыл бұрын
If you want to be a Biomedical Scientist, then you will need to complete the IBMS registration portfolio to become registered with the HCPC before starting this work. In the case of the STP, you need not become registered with the HCPC or even be a Biomedical Scientist prior to enrollment. If you want to become a clinical scientist with the STP, you could do so through gaining relevant experience in the field and then applying through their website. If you want to chat about this more then contact me. I am about to start my career as Biomedical Scientist in Biochemisty.

I think it depends on the university (eg. University of Birmingham say that BTEC is not accepted for biomed but it is accepted at Birmingham City University). Also, if Psychology is an A-level then it may be accepted as long as you have minimum 1 or 2 science A-levels (Biology, Chemistry or Physics) but you have to check with the universities you are considering applying to as the requirements do vary 👍🏻

Hiya! If you want to do research, then the university does not have to be accredited (mine wasn’t at the time of my studies and I am a research scientist) 👍🏻 However, if you want to work as a healthcare biomedical scientist then you do need to have this accreditation (ie. do the course at a university that is accredited). Having said that though, I think you may still be able to work as a healthcare scientist if you did a course that is not accredited, but I am not sure how you go about that, sorry (possibly by gaining an extra qualification after biomed but you’ll have to double check). Hope this help!

And you can check the FAQs or contact the STP to check if you are ok to apply as you are or whether you will need some more experience before applying! Im also curious also that do you get straight into a clinical scientist job after the training or do you have to search for a vacancy? If the latter is the case personally I found clinical scientist roles hardly pop up and those that do generally are for those who specialises in microbiology, immunology or biochemistry. Basically those who did a specialism which wasn't this you may not find or even get into the job due to rarity and competition.

Hiya! I don’t think it will be a disadvantage. I know a person who got an MSci and then did a PhD. He is now a university lecturer. Generally, for lab research, both BSc+MSci and BSc+MRes would be fine as long as you will get the lab experience during the course of your studies, so it’s up to you to make that call 👍🏻

I think it really depends on the course content. If you want to do research (I am assuming you mean lab research) then you need to make sure that your course(s) provide lab experience. @research.diaries4 жыл бұрын
Hi Simlee. I honestly don’t know how the system works for International applicants as I was a home/UK student. For MRes in biomedical science you would usually need some kind of a science degree or (as some universities say) a “relevant degree”, which is rather ambiguous so your physio degree may be fine but you need to ask the university you would be applying to! There are definitely plenty of international workers in the UK so this won’t be a problem! However, I would suggest you check with specific universities regarding the entry requirements, especially if you are an international candidate as the requirements will be different to the home/UK students. As for bringing your child over with you, I don’t see that as an issue as I heard there are grants available at universities for supporting those with children/dependants. So do check with specific universities about admissions, support and so on. I hope this is at least somewhat helpful! Sorry I cannot give a more detailed answer! I hope it works out for you 😊

Nice vedioe and biomedical scientist used stethoscope ? Pls answer
@Kazuya20024 жыл бұрын
It depends on what career you take next. for example if you choose medicine later, yes you will ,otherwise if you choose research as an option you will be using much more complex instruments than a stethoscope

Hi how did they go from biomed to business?
@research.diaries4 жыл бұрын
Hiya! I think they did a Masters in one of the London Business schools, and then they went to work for some companies and eventually started their own business.

what kind of work experience is the best when applying to medicine
@research.diaries3 жыл бұрын
A couple of examples: - shadowing a doctor (eg. in a hospital or in the community practice). - volunteering in a hospital, care home, or organisations like British Red Cross or St John Ambulance (where you provide first aid at various events). There are other kinds of work experience/volunteering you can do, of course, but these are the most common ones I’ve heard of 😊 It’s worth speaking to career advisors at your school/college/university and also going to medicine open days at universities where you can find out all the information you need 👍🏻 The admissions teams at universities should also be able to provide some advice with this. I hope this helps.

Hello Maam can u pls tell me is there is any dissection in BMS 😁
@research.diaries4 жыл бұрын
Hi there! I think this depends on the course and the university 😊 We had a prosection session rather than a full dissection on our course at the time, but I honestly don’t know about what other universities do on their BMS courses!

Is it possible to get job in uk after completing my ug in biomedical sciences
@annmaryroyroy94834 жыл бұрын
Hi I am an Ann after getting bmd can I take MD directly
@research.diaries4 жыл бұрын
Hi. Not quite sure what you are asking but in the UK an MD is a 2-year postgraduate research qualification for medical/clinical professionals (ie. entry requirements specify that you have to hold an MBBS/MBChB/BDS degree, as well as have clinical and possibly some scientific experience as a medic too). You cannot do an MD if you have a biomed degree. If you want to obtain a research doctoral qualification then you can do a PhD (3-4 years in duration in the UK).
@research.diaries4 жыл бұрын
OR, if you are asking whether you can study MEDICINE directly rather than after biomed, then yes you can! You can apply for medicine with or without a biomed degree 👍🏻

@@research.diaries ok does this course demands Maths
@research.diaries4 жыл бұрын
Whilst studying biomed you will be doing some chemistry-type maths (eg. calculating dilutions and concentrations of buffers). So yes, there will be maths involved.

@@research.diaries but actually in India we have physics, chemistry, bio, we don't study maths in high school, so I think this would be difficult for me. Should I choose this coirse6
@research.diaries4 жыл бұрын
Oh Maths as a subject isn’t an official requirement to study this course! You will be fine with bio, chem and physics (I did those at A-level myself in the UK and was fine)😊
