I studied neuropsychology last year with The Cognitive Enhancement Therapy from Cleveland, Ohio, because I had a blockage in my left brain due to high blood pressure which made me very nervous to meet new people and I became isolated, I earned the 2016 Gist Queen Award

Can we study neuropsychology after completing our bachelors in psychology or do we have to complete our masters in order to study neuropsychology. Also, can you recommend some universities offering education for masters in this field in The States and Canada? Thank you so much

I am in my final year of a bachelors degree. And in my experience of statistics, not at all. A lot of our stats is about understanding the fundamental concepts, and generally, how someone performs in relation to other people and the general population. To help us do statistics quickly and efficiently with large data samples, we use IBM's SPSS (statistic package for the social sciences)>

I'm a behavioral neuroscientist (more neurobiology- and animal-based with histology and such compared to cognitive) and what I do is pretty much all done in either IBM SPSS, the program used that records behavioral testing with animals (it also does statistical analysis based on track plots, distances traveled, etc.; e.g., ANY-maze), or Excel. Cognitive neuroscientists and clinical neuropsychologists who do research, especially with neuroimaging, need to know a lot about computer programming (for programming tasks and running scans) and a lot of statistics in general. Matlab, R, and Python are very common softwares used for analysis in cognitive neuroscience. If you're very visual, enjoy learning with humor, and have access to different statistical software, I would have to suggest Andy Field's Discovering Statistics series using various statistical software. I know he has IBM SPSS, R, and I think he has one on SAS.

That was a very informative video . but can the Parapsychologist do private practice as a psychoanalyst??
@christopherjones430610 жыл бұрын
Hi man, I'm pretty sure that only a psychoanalyst can work as a psychoanalyst! However, I think a neuropsychologist can do all the things a Clinical Psychologist can do as well! A parapsychologist is more outdated now isn't it?
@danialharis936 жыл бұрын
omico100 correct me if im wrong, but isnt parapsychology the study of supernatural? lol
@TheOn3LeftBehind6 жыл бұрын
Parapsychology is a pseudoscience studying paranormal phenomena. Neuropsychologists don't really ever use psychoanalysis. Neuropsychologists assess brain function using neuropsychological tests and look at neuroimaging scans after a neurologist orders one to examine any possible issues due to trauma (e.g., traumatic brain injury [TBI]) or potential neurological conditions. I'm a behavioral neuroscientist/biopsychologist, but I know a lot about clinical neuropsychology as I almost went into a clinical psychology program with training in neuropsychology and my brother was assessed by a neuropsychologist after a concussion and was determined to have ADHD secondary to TBI.

Hello, can you explain me the differences between a neuropsychologist and a biopsychologist? Thanks in advance.
@TheOn3LeftBehind6 жыл бұрын
Margarita Jiménez, a neuropsychologist is a clinical psychologist who has had training (often through coursework and internship placement) in the subfield of psychology known as neuropsychology to assess and attempt to treat patients with neurological or neuropsychiatric conditions that are affecting the psychological processes, such as behavior and cognition. Clinical psychologists, including neuropsychologists, are required to have a doctorate in clinical psychology (either a Doctorate of Psychology [PsyD], which is more practice-based, or Doctorate of Philosophy [PhD], which is more science-based) and be a licensed practitioner. A biological psychologist/biopsychologist (also known as behavioral neuroscience) is a researcher and/or scientist in the psychological sciences, and they work in a variety of different fields in either academia or the industry. In the industry, biological psychologists often work in (bio)pharmaceuticals using animal models for preclinical science with drugs as behavioral pharmacologists or (neuro)psychopharmacologists--both are subfields of biological psychology--or they can also work for research institutes or the government conducting research, especially biomedical research on health (often mental) conditions. There is another field known as cognitive neuropsychology (not to be confused with cognitive neuroscience), which isn't a clinical field. Cognitive neuropsychology is a subfield of cognitive psychology (again, not cognitive neuroscience) that researches cognitive effects of people with brain injuries or neurological conditions. Cognitive neuroscience, as opposed to cognitive neuropsychology, isn't concerned about the cognitive processes underlying brain injuries and neurological conditions but they are focused on the neural mechanisms behind cognition (such as using neuroimaging to pinpoint which areas are activated upon completing a behavioral and/or cognitive task--the neural correlates of the process), hence why it's known as neuroscience instead of psychology. The main difference is that a neuropsychologist is an evidence-based clinician who also uses neuropsychological assessments to assess brain function (they can also conduct research at the same time, though, depending on the workplace!) and deficits whereas a biological psychologist and cognitive neuropsychologist (as well as cognitive neuroscientists) are scientists and researchers. There is also a branch of biological psychology called biological psychopathology that specifically looks as psychopathological mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, etc., usually in animal models often using in vivo (in living organism) and histological methods. Biological psychology, I would say, is WAY more neuroscience based. Like we use a bunch of methods that are associated with straight up biology but are being applied to psychology, whereas cognitive neuropsychologists and cognitive neuroscientists are somewhat of the opposite, where they are using more psychology and applying that to neuropsychology and neuroscience. You CAN work on mental illness as a biological psychologist, but it's often applied more to biomedical research. It all depends on where you work, knowledge of techniques, and your personal research experiences.

Only you can answer that. Do you want to become a neuropsychologist? If yes, then you go to graduate school because that's the only way you can become one. You don't want to? Then why even bother asking the question.
