I was straight out of college. It's the interviewers who calmed me by saying "no need to be nervous, we're just doing a conversation". I replied with "thank you sirs, this is indeed my first (official job) interview 😅". After some time, they asked whether my past (part time) coworkers ever did a mistake & what was my response. I stupidly said one of them cheated on his wife in the workplace & my response is talk to them about life 😂 Guess what? I passed

The public speaking choice depends, I have said this in an interview and got this comment by the director: “but for this role then you won’t be a fit because you will have to lead the meetings, as a project coordinator you’ll talk to a lot of stakeholders.” 😢

@OSprinkles , what has worked for me personally (everyone is different) is saying I can be a little overanalytical at times but am improving at seeing the bigger picture. Interviewers have liked this because being analytical is a good quality in general although going too far is the weakness. But saying you are working on that or have been improving that presents confidence in overcoming the weakness. Just my 2 cents.

When I was young student an applying for first side jobs I was very nervous and the interviewer noticed. I just openly telled that and they were 100% understanding, Event told me like they felt when they were young and it was a nice dive into a conversation. So I feel there is no shame being nervous and communicating that. Of course you should not do that if you’re applying for CEO and want to run a company or similar 😂

This is so annoying and another reason why I hate interviews because anyone can say anything, it’s about how clever you are at playing mind games versus using actual discernment and human skill plus evaluating work ethic. Interviews and jobs are all about how how fake you can be until you’ve been at the company for 5+ years. 🤦🏽‍♀️

Thanks for this insight, BUT what if the interviewer asks exactly about the problems we might have had in our previous positions? Should we lie that there were no problems, i.e. everything was fine - which would simply mean that we have no experience of dealing with difficult situations - and they would then ask the next and even more daunting question of why our stay with this/those employer(s) was so short? What if they mention certain difficult conflict situations (because they might have such situations in their team too), such as conflict over the leadership role in the team/department or first authorship of your research papers?

The reasons you have suggested for leaving the current job could easily be precarious: “I've reached my full potential there and want to learn new things and take on more responsibility” sounds good, but any recruiter could see through that and realize or assume that you can get bored with routine tasks, which may be quite normal in this company. Even in science, a certain amount of stability and stamina is required, as scientific research can also be very monotonous, boring, and frustrating. The pursuit of higher responsibility might raise the question, when will you feel satisfied and ultimately settle down? They might think that you will remain restless until you have found a high position, which would not be possible in this company either, because there are already many contenders here.

@@CareerVidz Richard, The video is quite interesting and gives valuable advice, but it does not answer my original question about serious conflicts, such as disputes in the team especially as team leader, intellectual property, first authorship of a paper, patents, etc., which occur all over the world in academic settings, and one needs to know how to deal with such difficult situations - though sometimes things can get really very nasty, which could end up being the real reason why you leave - voluntarily or you get shown the door. I pose this question, which I have faced in job interviews: "How would you handle the situation if a colleague stole your academic work and claimed first authorship of your research paper?" How would you answer this question?

All is true I am a very nervous person I had plenty problems getting employment however one of my interviewers ignored my nervousness and employ me everybody else was against me the bosses above him was angry I was leaving the job after one week but he insisted I stay he wanted to prove all of them wrong before six months I got an award for being the best worker after six months I was promoted I am working there over 26 yrs

I used to say to the recruiter that my biggest weakness is to have a perfectionist character. I always try so hard to give 100% effort and 100% expectation but if the expectation is under 99% or below that, then I feel defeated, overthinking, and shut myself down. These conditions hardly impact my later works but I got the position anyway. Then, in the office I learned that it is okay to make mistakes, we continuously get critics from our manager but from that we will learn and develop ourselves to be better and better.

What would be a good response to the managers question about why did you leave your last job?
