There are two realms of Nishimura's genius. The second realm is his fabulous technique, especially the right hand stuff. But the first realm is just being able to conceive of these arrangements - Bass lines, rhythm taps, chord structures, melodies - all integrated seamlessly in a single cohesive performance. Just listened to KN's version, and, Alex Misko's: side-by-side, verse-by-verse. To start, they are both mind-boggling, as are Tommy E, Alip Ba ta, Josephine Alexandra, and, a VERY few select others. But, as I discovered, by doing this Coke-Pepsi comparison, I'm convinced that those that love Kent, more so than the other greats, do so, because of his ability, or, perhaps more accurately, his decision, since I don't want to say the others are incapable of doing similar stuff, to go for the heart of the original source material, and, f*cking NAILING IT! Misko's arrangement, with his re-tuning, on-the-fly, is pure WOW! However, what I kept going back to, was this: only Kent's version brought me back to the late 80's when this song was massive. It's been said by many of Kent's fans: it's his ability to absolutely capture the soul of each of his arrangements, along with his UNMATCHED groove, that makes us all weep. Oh, let me add a massive amount of nostalgia, as I would argue, is amplified by his style of capturing the original feel, and, soul, of the song. Case in point: Kent's arrangement of Careless Whisper vs Misko's. One more thing, in the case of this particular cover, I feel that Kent was able to encompass more of the other band's parts, which I guess is another thing that is more than Kent than others: his unsurpassed one-man-band-ness.

Never never ever ever disappointed when I click on this guy. We are always awed into a mental journey away from the stress of the world when your fingers do what few can do the way and level you do it. Thanks for those few moments of relaxing, inspiring mental pause you gave us in this overall year of upheaval, stress and sadness. They where appreciated more than you will ever know.

This isn't "Guitar Playing". It's Musicianship at it's finest. It may seem like he is "playing" this song, but that's why he smiles the way he does. He engineered this song, one note at a time, curated every transition, and has been over it hundreds or thousands of times until it met his standards. Then he smiles, like it's "play-time". 🙂

Incorporating a bassline with melody is itself a hard task, this young man not just do that but also adds slaps, harmonics, rhythm and feels.. just super talented I would say.. must have practiced alot🔥

"Fingerstyle" just doesn't seem adequate enough of a word to describe this arrangement; this and others like it demand their own unique category.

True. 'Fingerstyle' really doesn't count in all the tapping, harmonics, and percussive elements this guy executes. Amazing.

I'm amazed by the way he makes harmonics. I only can use natural ones, but he seems to be able to play'em in every note he wants.
@labs65244 жыл бұрын
To do it you have to fret the note you want, put your finger in that note but 12 frets up and then play it. It's called artificial harmonics
@twistedhalo14824 жыл бұрын
As he moves the harmonics in every frets, he also moved his fingers in the left hand. There are 3 artificial harmonics by the way... the 5th, 7th, and 12th. 12th is the loudest or most natural one and 5th is the low.
