I love this film. Everybody's acting is on point and you can feel the magic being made. Her acting, specially, I found it amazing. There's something very "old cinema" about it. This film is great and has a space in my heart, it isn't too sweet, it's naturally romantic which I really admire.

@carloshannon8346Ай бұрын
Have faith you will find him. Don't give out your thyme to those undeserving and you will get your farmer oak. Personally I wouldn't want a Bathsheba, she went through every option before settling for the 'good guy' as is the way with most women. It was the soldiers true love I felt sorry for, she seemed a sweet, caring girl who made the mistake of believing the yarns of womaniser

Come all you fair and tender girls, That flourish in your prime, Beware, beware, keep your garden fair, Let no man steal your thyme, Let no man steal your thyme. For when your thyme it is past and gone, He'll care no more for you, And every place where your thyme was waste, Will all spread o'er with rue, Will all spread o'er with rue. The gardeners son was standing by, Three flowers he gave to me, The pink, the blue, and the violent true, And the red red rosy tree, And the red red rosy tree. But I refuse the red rose bush, And gained the willow tree, That all the world may plainly see, How my love slighted me, How my love slighted me.

Emily Johnson Thyme - Virginity Rue - Regret I don't know what the 3 flowers, red rosy tree, red rose bush and willow tree signify.
@pmnctytrang12189 жыл бұрын
Emily Johnson I read in wiki (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sprig_of_Thyme) they said: "Thyme" - virginity and, to an extent, time. "Red Rose" - romantic love, lust or "wanton passion" "Violet" - modesty "Willow" - sorrow and despair "Rue" - regret "Oak" - strength, loyalty

One of the earlier versions of this song was titled "Garner's Gay", and included the lines: "Oh the rue, that running, running rue That's not the flower for me I will pluck up all that running, running rue And plant down the sturdy oak tree: Stand you fast, stand you fast, sturdy oak Stand you fast, don't ever die I will prove as true to my own true love As the stars prove true to the sky" I don't know if it was intentional by the author of the original story, but Oak represents strength and loyalty, so I think it's clever that Farmer Oak stayed by her side the entire time.

"And the willow tree shall weep and the willow tree shall whine, I wish I was in that young man's arms, who stole this heart of mine..." Lovely movie and one of the most beautiful folk songs ever. Love the word games with Thyme/Time and rue. Btw: old women knowledge was often hidden in songs and fairytales. Possible that the bitter rue was a plant used for abortion. You have that in that old German Folksong "Petersilie, Suppenkraut wächst in unserem Garten/unser Ännchen ist die Braut, kann nicht länger warten". (Parsley grows in our garden, our little Anne is the bride, cannot wait any longer) Petersilie=Parsley was helpful for abortion.
