Difficult conditions for a maiden flight with the wind. Well done! Nevertheless, I would always use the flaps fully and prefer to go around on the first approach. Very nice Mustang!

Hi, the wind was at 36km/h and that is why Dean did not land with full flaps. Also the motor is still very rich. After landing, Arno saw that the fuel level was very low. He might not have been able to do another circuit. The next flight should be much better. I will do my best to be there to make a new video. Regards, Dirk

Very nice. I'm building the same plane with a Kolm 150. Alot of changes required to get the Kolm all set up but should be all worth it in the end. Congrats on the maiden

Shame that the side of the cowl has to be cut open like that for that darn muffler. Pretty Stang! He did the "Europe take-off position", so this has to be overseas. LOL.....

Hi Scot, CARF recommend the DA85 for the P51. In South Africa we battle with overheating on the inline twins and Kolm engines. Pitty the cowl had to be cut but at least the bird has a reliable engine. Modification to the muffler can be done at a later stage and cowl closed up again. Still a lot to be done to this model. Very pretty model otherwise. Glad you like it.

Please remember it was a first time flying this plane. You do not always have the best landing on a maiden flight. And Dean have not flown a P51 of this size before. Thanks.

Schlechter Pilot und sehr unsicher. Auch mit einem Scale Flieger ein leichte Kunstflug sollte drinnen sein und der Mustang ist dafür mehr als geeignet.

The field was chosen because it is big and open. Nobody was in danger at any time. Dean is actually a very good pilot. He flies a Jet at a speed of 450km/h and not many pilots can do that.

Maiden flight, 38 Deg C, wind started gusting and was very strong. Engine did not have enough power for aerobatics as it is still being run in and fuel mixture was on factory setting and very rich. Adjustments were made to setup of aircraft and carburetor after this flight. The next flight will certainly be better and hopefully conditions will also be favorable. Hope this explanation will change your view on the performance of the aircraft and pilot.
