I know it's technically a replica (barely, it's almost perfectly identical to a real one, just better built) but when you could either have the old, fragile, art-installation only original for nearly £10million or one that looks the same, IS the same but is better built AND driveable for about a 10th of what they usually sell for? I'm on board. Hell, if you're the type to throw this sort of money around, why not pick up an original to have in the collection and let it sprout piles of money from the exhaust AND have one of these so you can actually enjoy it!

Bob Norwood in the US is selling 250 Californias for around $1 to 1.2M. Those have an original Ferrari chassis (from a 250 GTE or 330 GT) and an original engine. They create a new body in aluminium over a wooden buck. To be honest, I would rather have the GTO Engineering SWB being brand new.

@helplmchoking3 жыл бұрын
Yeah these area seriously impressive. I really dig the restomod thing, have done for ages, but this is actually pretty unique in the space. It's almost entirely the same as a car from the 60's, no modern brakes, gearbox or whatever. But it's a collection of 60's pieces built in the 2020's, ultra-precise casting and machining, super close tolerances and engineering (no slide rules in that studio, I imagine) and that's truly special. Kinda gives an appreciation for what these sorts of cars would be like if they'd had our technology 60 years ago. In fact, I once got to drive a Daytona (sorry for the flex, but context) and I was so, so excited and then... it wasn't great. I mean it sounded amazing and I felt awesome cruising in a Daytona, but it had that old car "everything feels kinda loose and sloppy and fragile" kinda feeling, not at all confidence inspiring and honestly really distracting. I guess it's like switching from a 20 year old car to the same car with completely replaced suspension, bushings, steering and all that. The same actual car, just tight and crisp and new.

YES YES YES THANK YOUUUU I can't get enough of the GTO 250 SWB. I used to live near the area and I used to drive around for hours and sometimes id run into one of those beauties, then id proceed to lose my shit and after a while id have to pull over and collect my thoughts, I'm not ashamed to admit I cried tears of joy when I saw one of these masterpieces drift around a roundabout, hearing the colombo v12 rawr, it was overwhelming! I love these cars and part of why I love them is the freedom that comes along with them, sure they are expensive but nowhere near as expensive as the original ones. Also, the original ones carry so much history that you can afford to jeopardize that, I couldn't anyway, their history is too precious to me. The GTO recreation allows you to be in the position they new owners of SWBs where in period, you can drive it hard take it to historic races and no worry about driving a historic artefact, you can focus on creating new history with these timeless beauties, you can continue their legacy by driving them to their limits. A clean slate. At the same time, you're able to spec it any way you want and hopefully, you'll choose a historic Ferrari livery, maybe reinterpret it, you're freed from resale red over tan which somehow applies even to the classic Ferraris. This car embodies peak car design and aesthetic, peak car driving characteristics and engagement, peak racing with the incredible endurance races of its time, and above all freedom. Freedom from Ferrari snobs, freedom from the immense responsibility of preserving a historic artifact, freedom to create new history and that's why I love these cars and why my dream car isn't a Ferrari 250 SWB but a Ferrari 250 SWB built by GTO engineering (in the spec of chassis no. 2159 GT without the spotlight in case you were wondering). I'm 19 years old and while I got my whole life ahead of me to put myself in a position to buy a GTO 250 SWB I'm honestly pessimistic as I don't know if cars like that will be available or even legal when that time comes. If you own one of these cars or any raw driver-oriented car whether it's a classic or not please, drive it, enjoy it and experience it as much as possible these cars were not built to be garage queens and a generation of future petrolheads might not be able to do what you have the opportunity to do in the future. PS. I would call it a recreation rather than a resto-mod as they are all original or have period-correct mods, I think Alfaholics GTA R when i think resto-mod.

News from this week: "Italian luxury sports car maker Ferrari on Thursday won its dispute with a German car design company after Europe’s top court agreed with its arguments that it owns the design right to the appearance of its race-track-ready Ferrari FXX K. Ferrari had sued Mansory Design in the German court for making and selling these accessories designed to make the Ferrari 488 GTB, which is priced at around $250,000, look like the US$2.6-million Ferrari FXX K, saying the company had violated its rights to the unregistered designs." All this to say that now there is a "legal precedent" that gives Ferrari reason.. so, bodykit or not, it appears that there is not much legal in the product of the video. The only doubt I have left is that, since the video company is an English company, therefore not a European one, maybe they can get away with it

Didn't we see this company doing this already? They wanted to recreate everything as close to the original as possible but the welders for the chassis refused? They refused because the welding on the original was terrible! It's a great looking car, and I'm just looking at how perfectly ever single detail has been put together.
