Watching these huge ships with modern day electronics and radar on these cold vast oceans gives me a tremendous amount of respect for the Vikings who originally sailed to places like the Faroe Islands and Iceland.

Don't forget--if you go, to make sure you are there when they pull into the shallows those whales and Dolphins--lots and lots of Dolphins--and take them apart with their knives--it is simply not to be missed, the blood is so great the area for miles is crimson, it really is a beautiful thing to see--all the children--they help too you know, blood spattered on their rosy cheeks

It's a bit of a misnomer to call it a cargo ferry. The main cargo is passengers and there are real cargo ships making calls to the Faroe Islands, like container and tanker vessels.

In my days at sea this would be a ferry. I think in these days it is is a RO -RO passenger ferry, never a cargo ship.

Well done report, though 3:55 shows an incorrect route through the islands. The ship actually goes through another fjord.

I was wondering over that same thing myself, I have a memory of a low bridge connecting Eysturoy and Streymoy. And this bridge is far too low for anything this size to go under it....

Regulation requires a bridge team. Smart arse can dispense with it. Until he fks up! Or just has an infarction. Really responsible stuff, carrying px.

There are ratings on the bridge to assist on manoeuvres, not officers, as he mentions. He is referencing how cargo and cruise ships insist on having multiple officers on the bridge, which is unnecessary if you have good ratings. Normal arrival on these vessels is two quartermasters and one master on the bridge. Chief officer on lower cargo deck preparing and second officer on upper cargo deck preparing. Second officer will act in charge of one mooring party, bosun will act in charge of the other. It works well!

How does filling the bow ballast tanks, which result in the bow sinking deeper into the water, reduce the surface area of the ship in the water? Does it lift the stern up?

3:57 it shows that The ferry Sails through Streymoy and Eysturoy but it isn’t true, it cant because there is a Low Bridge there Norrøna sails between Eysturoy and Kalsoy or Kalsoy and Kunoy

Not really a cargo ship, rather a normal RoRo ferry that takes freight and passengers. And I am sure the Faeroes (and Iceland) would get more tourists if they stopped in Scrabster and/or Lerwick, as the Norröna used to. It was a very strange decision to stop calling at these ports, given that it sails pretty much right past.
