Sand bags over the rear axil,limeted slip differential and snow tires and dropping tire pressure all help. To practice in a empty parking lot is smart.I all ways noticed far more four wheel vehicals done south than in the north.There is no substitute for exsperiance.

I've got to drive several Frontiers in winter conditions. None of them had "good" tires on them, and 4WD was almost essential to moving anywhere -- tires seem to make a difference on them. That said, I've had 6 2WD trucks and ran snows on some, all-terrain in others and never really got stuck to the point I couldn't walk it out. As you shown and mentioned, trying it out in an empty parking lot in a wise investment of time.

Sounds like you see a decent amount of snow to test that out. 👍 how much weight/what would you use as weight in the back?
@tadinator1362
@tadinator1362 Жыл бұрын
@@Gafferd8186 I typically never put weight in the back with the exception of my first Ranger which was 2WD and I used about 400 lbs of pavers in the bed with snow tires. That was just for the first winter though. Almost every other truck I've owned has just had whatever snow fell into the bed for weight. The Nissans I got to drive were at work. I personally had 4 Rangers(3 of them 2WD), an F150(2WD), a Sierra(2WD), a Ram 1500(4WD), and now a Maverick w/AWD. BTW, I live in the suburbs of buffalo, NY; so yeah, there's some winters where we get some snow.

I lived in Mexico in the early 2000s almost no one owned 4x4 trucks literally all where RWD. You learned how to drive with what you have and most of the time since we had very muddy roads. You had a good set of tires that are capable and carried cinder blocks in the back of the truck for extra weight to help with traction. When I was in the the I drove a 1990 C1500 in the snow. I had good all season tires I knew my limits and made to keep them at a lower PSI but didn’t add weight. Loved the truck and did amazingly never failed me.

In my experience its mostley about the tires never added weight in the truck bed either just easy on the gas

Put good AT , Snow or even Mud tires on the rear wheels.Oh yea never let your fuel tank go below half a tank. The weight from the fuel adds to the vehicle.

I drive railroaders around yards in areas we'd really want 4wd but we use front wheel drive Dodge Caravans instead. Driving in deep loose gravel is not too unlike driving in snow. It takes some experience to know what situations we'd be better off not getting into. Just go easy on the go pedal & keep rolling instead of spinning tires & skidding. Plan stops ahead of when you have to & you'll skid far less.

Snow tires are the most important piece. Were your new tires on the rear snow tires?
@Carguments
@Carguments 6 жыл бұрын
Nope. Snow tires are awesome and important but I have only had a set of snow tires on one vehicle in one winter. I have never lost control of my vehicle with all seasons. I would always say get snow tires if you can tho. I just know to keep my distance and completely change my driving style.

If the money is right and the condition is good, go for it! I'm looking at a 2004 F150 with 43k for $4700. I had an 06 of that exact one and had 2wd as well. Threw in 240lbs of sandbags in the back and it held up great in snow. Don't let 2wd scare you man!

Just inherited my first pickup from my late brother. A 2006 F150 super cab, RWD. We have snow everywhere and I’ve gotten stuck like three times. Fully worth it, but your advice will help.

I remember my dad would put his ranger 8 welder, firewood,, or anything to add weight in the back of the truck during snow It would be nice to have 4×4 but I can't justify the cost since we don't get alot of snow here.

I have a 2wd 2006 Silverado 1500 wt. I put about 300 pounds of sand in the bed over the axel to increase traction. I live about 40 minutes west of Fort Wayne so I know what you are talking about with traction problems in the winter.

I own a 2000 Silverado 1200 2wd and it's AWEFUL in snow. It'll slip on anything. I don't even bother adding weight to the bed or snow tires. I just don't drive it in inckiment weather. It's just my lumber go-getter
