Drove both of these on the weekend, but with the IS 350 AWD as we narrowed the list down from Genesis G70 and Audi S4. We currently have a 2015 TLX SH-AWD (V6, Canadian model) and so looking for a slight elevation in a daily driver. The S4 is priced much too high in Canada, and the G70 with the fresh was not possible to find locally to test drive one (plus concerned with recently report quality issues). We plan to keep this car for at least 8 yrs, so out of warranty ownership is top of mind. The TLX Type-S is quicker, firmer suspension and an airy cabin feel. However, it felt like a step down on interior quality from our existing TLX, really shocked about that. The IS 350 AWD F Spec 3 package did feel a slower than Type S, but a bit quick than current TLX we have. The interior is a huge step up from our current car, and definitely a step up from the Type S, and all for a bit less money. We’ve ordered one, a 2023 black exterior, black interior and will add in the Lexus Sport Exhaust since the all the sound that is in the cabin is speakers (TLX Type-S has that as well). Now we wait for 4-5 months.

Surprising you think the current TLX interior is a step down from your previous model, but it is true the new Civic interior (while looking good in pics) is about a half step behind my 2021 Mazda 3 turbo hatch...both in look and feel of certain materials used.

The IS500 starting costs is about $5,000 more than the TLX, and does not offer an AWD option. Even a comfortably equipment AWD IS350 cost slightly higher than the TLX Type S which is why it is the most direct competitor. The IS500 closest competitor will be the BMW M2 in my opinion.
@jafet38982 жыл бұрын
@@hybridsnowleopard yes but we these are sport midsize sedans, for example the bmw m3 is like 80k and still the competitor are the tlx type s the IS500 etc, all of them are the sport trims it doesn’t make sense to take a car with a normal trim and the other with the high performance trim. If they compared the IS350 with a TLX Spec it would make more sense. Is like if you compare and Bmw M with a Mercedes that isn’t AMG
@hybridsnowleopard2 жыл бұрын
@@jafet3898 Pricing is how you compare each vehicle, and no the TLX Type S is not competing with the M3 even though they are both sport sedan and similar in size. At most it is competing with the M340i. With that logic you might as well compared a Toyota Supra to a Porsche 911 Turbo. The IS500 is more a BMW M2 competitor due to similar in price and size, minus the fact that the M2 is a coupe. The TLX and the IS are not a good comparison to begin with although most people wanted them to compete with each other. The ES and the TLX are technically in the same category, the IS is a rear-wheel-drive compact sedan, while the ES and TLX are front-wheel-drive bias midsize sedan. Such weird Market we're in. Bottom line is that the IS500 and the TLX Type S are not true competitors. The IS500 performance level is one step higher than the TLX Type S.

@@hybridsnowleopard nope you don’t understand my opinion, I’m comparing the cars with their segment not by their price. Maybe you might compare cars by price, I don’t, if you compare them by price you might compare a tlx with a highlander? Because they are kinda the same price. If you compare cars by pricing that’s alright but, it makes more sense to me by the segment because you can’t compare and M2 which is a sport car with a IS500 that is a family sedan sport car. If you look there the video most of them are compare by the segment.

Most modern sports sedans are AWD. The TLX shares as much with the Accord that the IS shares with the Camry so hardly anything. And if that were true the Accord is fast more sprting than the plain basic Camry. Even the 3.0L V6 is unique to Acura, unlike the Lexus V6.

You shouldn't compare the 350 F Sport to the TLX Type S. It's not a fair comparison as they aren't competing trims. TLX Type S is $10,000 more expensive than the IS 350 F Sport. It would make much more sense to compare TLX A-Spec or Advance Packagewith Lexus 350 F Sport. The A-Spec is STILL $2000 more expensive, but at least it's closer. While F-Sport is 'Sporty', so is the A-Spec. It's still 273 hp with a 10 speed sequential with paddles, and a handling oriented AWD system. The Type S is a very special high performance trim, Lexus does not have a comparable option for this, I guess you could compare the IS500 F-SPORT. It would be like a less extreme version of comparing the Lexus F-Sport with AMG or M cars. It's just not trying to do the same thing.
