The 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe is a big, powerful, and imposing SUV-just as it’s been for years. But with the smoother-riding, more fuel-efficient, and more spacious (if you can believe it) Chevy Traverse being sold for thousands less, is this long-tenured SUV still the best option?
If you need to tow some serious weight, the Tahoe is a better option than the Traverse or other 3-row crossovers. That’s largely thanks to a body-on-frame construction and a choice of two rumbling V8 engines. The 5.3-liter V8 makes a respectable 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, but the 6.2-liter V8 cashes the checks that the Tahoe’s bold styling writes. 420 hp and 460 lb-ft will get the Tahoe up to speed in a hurry.
Still, the body-on-frame engineering that helps boost the Tahoe’s towing capacity restricts its interior dimensions. The higher load floor, combined with folding (rather than removable) third-row seats means that this giant SUV offers less cargo space than the Traverse.
An impressive MyLink infotainment system, comfortable front seats, and access to advance safety technology (not to mention the peace-of-mind that comes with driving a vehicle of this Corolla-crushing size) still has the Tahoe on many families’ shopping lists. To determine if the 2018 Chevy Tahoe is the right car for you, read Chris’s full review on CarGurus: cargur.us/psmSp

People in my country get these trucks primarily for reliability, capabilities and look. Not to mention it's one of the most fuel efficient V8's.

Looks fantastic. Honestly nothing looks as manly in this class. I wish the 6.2 was available in cheaper trims.

A fair review. As a driver who has run K-Blazers and a Yukon exclusively since 1981 (315,000 miles on the current 2001 Yukon with the same engine and tranny), I found this review to be right in so many ways. Most people would be well served, including their mild family off-road needs, with a Traverse and it's AWD. With the advent of these vehicles rebadged as SUVs instead of trucks, their prices have escalated as well. It would cost twice as much today to get a vehicle to replace my Yukon, and it's the SLT version. While I use them for work as well as running around, I admit I enjoy driving it. It feels natural for me to drive at this point. Claustrophobia sets in when i drive smaller cars. And repairing whatever goes wrong is a fairly simple matter, certainly less than more aspirational vehicles.

Chris, always excited about your reviews! They are spot on without the BS, with the correct amount of information for the average consumer. Your knowledge and a feel for the vehicle is totally synonymous with the Car Gurus. I drove a couple of vehicles after watching your reviews and couldn't get out of my mind how right on the "money" you were. Fantastic!

A great review! I'm replacing my 2005 Ford Expedition which is still in pretty good condition but I love the new stuff on the Tahoe and also the comfort. Think I might buy one tomorrow!

Lmao....You are so correct. Minivans have more cargo capacity, tend to have more people space, and consume less gas. Yet, while I like minivans, I would love to have a Tahoe. They look mean, sound great, and I just plain want one!

The Tahoe has become such a big part of Chevy's presence in the large SUV segment and is as good today as it was when it first surfaced. Thanks for sharing this awesome video!

If you don’t want the minivan, just get the Traverse or Atlas. If your only need is to lug your kids around those mid sized suvs have way more space inside and would be more way comfortable to drive, not to mention cheaper to buy and own.

The traverse is a unibody, transverse mounted engine, front wheel biased BS awd, unreliable and barely serviceable piece of disposable garbage. It is no more than a bloated car. Superior towing and hauling capability is just a perk to driving a real sport UTILITY vehicle
