I have had the infotainment screen in my XC90, I’m on my 2nd and never had an issue, you can move the location of the different settings, so the ones I use I move to top row, but honestly how many times do I ever need them whilst driving, almost never, so don’t get put off by that, it’s just a nice place to be

Reviewer points out that the B4 AWD has about the same fuel economy as the D4 tested earlier which was "admittedly" FWD. So, she obviously knows that AWD makes a difference, the question is how much. The D4 FWD has 10% better fuel economy than the D4 AWD, which is far from "marginal to non-existent." It's clueless to expect a 48 volt mild hybrid system to improve fuel economy by much more.

Had one on a four day test-drive recently. Was rather impressed by how smoothly it pulled away, and the MPG I got over the course of the week. It was only when I mentioned this to the man collecting the car that he pointed out it was the B4 not the D4. I hadn't even known, so it must make enough of a difference if even a non-petrol-head like me notices enough of an improvement to comment.

Fully agree with the review. I have a B4 since two months now and indeed fuel savings are not noticable. My old 2013 XC60 ( also 4WD) took 7 liters to 100 km ( 40 MPG) and this does the same except when I drive pure eco mode. Then when I am Lucky only 6 l per 100 km. ( 47 MPG) driving very careful !!! However it is great to ride. I bought it because it feels very smooth and luxureus. Also got it for a very good price compared to the competitors. End of last year these were pactically given away. I got a B4 not even asking for one. It was a free benefit. Main reason for buying it is that Volvo still has the best safety rating. Far better than even Lexus. So I feel comfortable in a safe car that is great to drive and reasonable fuel economy. By the way Lexus and Toyota fuel economy is also seriously overrated. They make electricity with petrol so what are they saving anyway? Now I am waiting for the new CO2 neutral diesel that will be available soon and then no more environmental nonsense. Oh yes. One more thing. Linking CO2 to global warming is the biggest fraud of the century. Hybrid technology so far is a joke anyway. Wait for the Hydrogen cell cars and then things will really change.
@samjameson914 жыл бұрын
Johan Vanderborght so you are getting over 15% fuel efficiency in eco then your previous model. You are actually getting better economy then is claimed by Volvo. Surely over a lot of miles that extra 7 miles per gallon should be noticeable in terms of fuel saving
@theotalma90634 жыл бұрын
A comparison to the previous generation XC60 with a completely different engine cannot tell us the benefit of the mild hybrid system. The reviewer told us indirectly that the benefit is about 10% - i,e., the difference between the FWD and AWD versions of the current XC60 D4.

I'm so confused. Why did volvo call it a "B"? The "D" means diesel. That makes sense. They will soon make an XC40 P8 Recharge which means approx a 400hp pure electric set up. Then there is the T8 which means plug in hybrid with supercharged and turbocharged. Then there is the T6 which is the same but minus the "electrified" components. Then there is an XC40 T5 which they have in the US which is a 2.0 turbocharged 4 cylinder with approx 250hp. THEN they announced the T5 twin engine which is like the T8 but minus a cylinder and a turbocharger and a little less battery energy. NOW THEY HAVE THE B?!?!?! So a B means mild hybrid. With no distinction between diesel or gasoline?! T could mean turbocharged, turbocharged with a PHEV setup, super and turbocharged, super and turbocharged with a PHEV setup, D means diesel ONLY. P means electric FOR NOW, and B means diesel or mild hybrid. Alright it's only T, B, D, and P. I cannot imagine someone would get confused AT ALL with this vile nomenclature. What's next, a J?! How about an ø. Or a ķ? Or a ğ? Ə anyone?!
@gertahnstrom7844 жыл бұрын
I guess it's B for Battery. I like that they added a letter to reflect that. They just need to rename the T8 to B8 now. But yeah, car nomenclature is rather bull in general these days. T for turbo, B for battery, D for Diesel, S for supercharger. Then stitch the right ones together to have it match the car. Not a "range" that then also comes with options that change things which could be a trim level. Should this be the BD4? But if all their engines now have 4 cylinders, and the number just indicate power level, why not change that into something that reflects just that... Small, Medium, Large? Option 1,2,3? Why 4-5-6-8??? 4-6-8 might make some sense... But hanging on to old names like the D3 or T5 just because they are familiar doesn't make them logical or easy.
@AY-ze1fp4 жыл бұрын
@@gertahnstrom784 Once upon a time at a Volvo event, someone told me that the nomenclature when switching to the new engines would stick. Old T5 models with 5 cylinders have approx 250hp and the Drive E engines (it's what they were called at the time) would have the same power. "Different number of cylinders, same power". At least that had good reasoning. However, B DOES NOT MEAN BATTERY! If B meant battery, then all the PHEV options (e.g. T8, T6, and T5 twin engine) would be B5. B6, and B8. I read the volvo press release and they had a VERY interesting and LAZY reasoning. "B" variants use the 48V KERS recovery system to recover energy when "braking". I think the B stands for brake by wire 🤮. BUT all the twin engine variants have the same system in addition to other electrified paraphernalia. As does the P8 model. Also the full name of the XC40 P8 is the XC40 P8 RECHARGE. YES we know we have to charge it but Volvo is so adamant to NAME their car RECHARGE. It is so stupid.

95% of all the items in the center screen menu, the once that are hard to navigate while driving, you're meant to use the voice commands for. That's a physical button on the steering wheel. Cant be much easier than that. It requires a small adjustment in the mindset, to get used to talk to the car, but when you get there, it's really easy and intuitive. Say "I'm cold" and the car raises the temperature for you, so on, and so forth. I imagine it's a bit to much when reviewing a lot of cars, not enough time to really get in to the owners perspective of the car. I been driving a V60 for ten months now, and I almost never touch the center screen anymore.

@gertahnstrom7844 жыл бұрын
How often do you need to use any of these while driving? There are buttons for the most used things, mainly on the steering wheel to be reached easily. Couple that with voice commands, most likely anything you'd need while driving is available without using this touch screen. It's there for its flexibility, not because it has to be used while driving. But yes, planning a bit and of course learning to use the whole system is vital. Set up those radio stations in the right order before leaving, doing navigation via voice control in case that changes while on the go... But other than that; How much settings do you change in other cars while on the run?
