Toyota has made it very clear that it really does not have its heart and mind into building pure EVs... Toyota sees pure EVs as the fool's gold of the auto industry for the immediate future... and, I agree with them... there needs to be a spectrum of power sources for autos and Toyota is diligently working on those and will eventually succeed.

AKIO Toyoda was right except on 1 aspect, if the technology isn't viable today, doesn't mean you have to dismiss it. Because, you will fall behind and have a lot harder time catching up. I favor PHEVs, but battery technology is moving fast. CATL is already developing a Sodium based battery, which might be the answer.

PHEVs are a different animal than hybrids... they are basically an EV intersected with a gas engine and thus, very complex and expensive to build... that is why Toyota's production of PHEVs is slow and it takes a very long time to get them... plus, the high consumer costs is prohibitive to the average auto consumer as is EVs... that being said, with the advancement of battery technology, there will probably be some major breakthroughs for the average consumer.@@dwadd7528

Well... if your knowledge and business acuity of the auto industry exceeds that of Toyota's I would certainly like to see your bona fides... you try some things, you fail at some, and you win some... Toyota has the ability and skills to overcome its losses but makes up for them with its stupendous and highly profitable wins... say compared to GM and Ford.@@bmw803

I own a Subaru Solterra. I agree that its range is underwhelming and the recharge process is very slow but since I’m a retired senior, neither point is relevant. I charge it overnight in my garage on a level 1 charger. It is always ready to go in the morning. What matters most to me is its very smooth and almost silent ride. It handles very well and I find the cabin attractive and comfortable. For me, it’s perfect but I understand why it is not suitable for everyone.

The BZ4X/Solterra had a recall and stop sale right out of the gate last year, and for something that had nothing to do with the electric drive system at that! They used wheel bolts rather than studs and lug nuts, first time Toyota's done that, and those were found to be defective.

Toyota is not sold on pure EVs yet and its focus for the foreseeable future will be on hybrids/plug-in hybrids; this approach seems to have been validated by the recent slump in pure EV sales which took many manufacturers, especially Tesla, by surprise. Personally, I think all pure electric vehicles, not just the ones made by Toyota/Subaru, are stop gap until the fast evolving battery technology can produce much better EVs in terms of range and charging speeds, and I'm not even mentioning the dearth of charging stations which is a very real problem even in large cities. Until that happens, I'm sticking with either hybrid or gasoline vehicles, thank you very much!
@eskieman3948
@eskieman3948 9 ай бұрын
Really good points. Quite frankly, I believe that the Toyota/Subaru EVs were built precisely for the reason this video's author stated - stop gap. Or, to translate into political/marketing reasons, to get the Feds off their back, and to placate the envirowackos in the marketplace. Toyota is not embracing the current EV insanity (good for them), and they'll focus upon their hybrid offerings, which are the best in the business.

Two of worst cars that I've had was a Toyota Corolla and a Honda Civic. Imagine leaving your car in the sun and the sun visors melt and fall apart. Yes that's minor but how ridiculous. By the way that was my brand new Civic. The power steering leaked , starter shorted out, alternator went bad etc and that was low mileage. When I got rid of it , was either 14,000 or 24,000 miles, I can't remember. Now what I've heard is some Honda's body's are melting in the sun. I saw photos of the outside mirrors melting. The windshield got dinged over and over some kind of cheap crap glass, no other car has ever done that. The alternator went bad. The a/c compressor went bad. I had to replace the crappy cheap junk door things to open the doors at least 5 times. Piece of crap car . there was other things that I can't remember. that was a 93 Corolla. I bought a civic, a little past the warranty the power steering was leaking oil . I paid half and Honda paid half. The starter shorted out kept running the battery down . I couldn't believe those crappy visors with mirrors etc melted and came apart when holding the sun shield up at work. I glued the crap with super glue. . That was a 2009 . I always buy them new. I'd have to disagree about the Blazer with the 3.6. The engine is smooth and pairs up well with the 9 speed transmission with AWD. Now the old 2.5 4 cylinder was underwhelming, for a vehicle the size of the Blazer, and Chevy got rid of it for the 2021 model year. I have a 2020, with the 3.6 AWD and it drives well, handles well and has plenty of power. Also it depends on the trim level when it comes to how its made, like with the 2020 LS and LT1 models, LT2 and above have much nicer materials. Now when it comes to bad vehicles from Chevy, I'd choose the Sonic or the 5.3 liter Silverado, The Sonic is barely a car and is cheaply made and the 5.3 liter Silverado has much more expensive issues, especially with the engine going bad at 5000 miles being more common than it should.

The Toyota BZ4X has a driving range of 238 miles on a single charge. However, this range is reduced to approximately 180 miles when the air conditioning or heater is in use. Additionally, the all-wheel drive model requires approximately over 3 hours to fully charge the battery from 5-100% at all high-speed charging stations, as Toyota initially limits the charging speed up to 53 KW per hour, which slows down as the battery reaches full capacity. Given the reduced range with AC usage, it is crucial to fully charge the vehicle to ensure optimal performance.

How wrong was I? In April 2022 believe I made a big mistake. I leased my 22 Kona. I realize I should focus on the selling price, but honestly, my main concern was the monthly payment. So I put down $1000....at first. Then called and put down another,$1000 towards it. When signing papers I was going to to do 36k mikes 36mos. Then thinking at the time I may need 48k in thev36 mos. Life changed. At this point I have 8250miles. Way under. With that said, hiw wrong was I putting down 2k and do you think by the time my lease is up that maybe my low miles will help me much? By then I bet I will be close to only 10000 miles.

Any low mileage car should be worth more than a similar high mileage one. If they won't give you a better deal, just buy it out and own it. The way things are going, it will probably the rest of your life.
