It is very inaccurate for the Dominican woman stating we are from the black diaspora. Dominicans are an ethnic group that emerge on the island post 1492 as the result of admixing. Like many Latin American countries our interpretation of culture is idiosyncratic. From example in North America black for the AA ethnic group is used as a cultural identifier. In the Dominican diaspora; Quisqueyano, cibaoeño, dominicano, dominicana are our cultural identifiers. Implying someone who is an inhabitant of or someone who is of a particular country or region of origin.

Yeah, Dominican dont have to explain anything to anyone. White Dominicans and black Dominicans dont have any issue with race, we are just Dominicans. We dont put a tag to our race. This get people upset, but its what its.

The first Dominicans settled in the Lower East Side during the late 1800s and early 1900s. As early as 1874.

The first person of Dominican descent to migrate into what is now known as the United States was sailor-turned-merchant Juan Rodríguez who arrived on Manhattan in 1613 from his home in Santo Domingo.[3] Thousands of Dominicans also passed through the gates of Ellis Island in the 19th and early 20th centuries.[4] The most recent movement of emigration to the United States began in the 1960s, after the fall of the dictatorial Trujillo regime.
