Hi Alen Tan, yup you are correct. There are many types of setup and choose the one best suited you. As long as it works for you there is no issue on what setup you are using.

@@akadebiaquatic9263 you use tap water for caridina? I have good tap water and hoped it could be done but everywhere keeps saying to use RO water. RO units are costly :(.

Due to the sensitivity of Caridina shrimp, it is best to use RO water so you would have stable TDS and GH and nothing else. If you are using tap water, you will have difficulty to maintain stable TDS and GH. Moreover, you do not know what is inside your tap water.

I recently bought SL Aqua Milione Bacteria Powder. But the instructions are EXTREMELY minimalistic. The whole bacteria/soil layering you did ending in a 24-48hrs of darkness to activate them. Is that “a thing they dont tell you”, is it brand specific, or is it when you do it in the soil as you shown? Also they say to add 1 spoon per L of water (old water). So I mix it to the water I replace only? And a spoon of what? Tea?table? So confusing, I need science in here

Hi Little Mountain, I believe most of the bacteria powder in the market works the same. Bacteria powder are in dormant state and will become active when it comes in contact with water. The reason why 24-48 hours of darkness is to fasten the process of bacteria multiplying as bacteria most active in dark environment. You can also ignore the 24-48hrs darkness but it takes time for the bacteria to look for suitable dark place in the tank and start multiplying. As for the spoon measurement, the bacteria powder should comes with a spoon. That is the spoon it referring to. After every water change, mix the bacteria powder with aged water or dechlorinated water and stir it. This is to activate the dormant bacteria and then pour it into the tank.

Hello.. This is a great! I have a question. It's ok to use undergravel filter with ada amazonia soil? Many people have said that it should not be combined.. Is that true? Sorry if someone has asked before..

So far I do not have any issue with my shrimp by using UGF and ADA soil. Most people don't recommend maybe because the soil will breakdown and sit under the UGF. For me it is not a problem since the soil last 1 - 2 years or maybe more (depending on how thick is your soil) i reset the whole tank after that.

just want to know why you divided your tank become 2?
@akadebiaquatic9263

I separate a smaller compartment at the back which act as a house of beneficial bacteria. It is ok if you do not want to divide into 2 parts but you have to spend more on the bio media to cover more spaces.
