Cheers Love I'm not sure if race has much to do with someone being friendly or not; some factors may have influence (culture or maybe some genetic characteristics) but I've never seen a pattern to correlate both.

They sell diapers for birds now. Ducks and geese are slowly catching on as pets, though most are still kept outdoors.

Dunno why you put diapers on your pets, they get very disgusting fast and risk of making the animal sick. Let them roam outdoors with other of their own kinds or dont get them at all imo.

If anyone is serious about having a goose/duck as a pet and you are able, go for it. I have 2 ducks. 1 is a Mallord & it was a runt and the other is an Peking. I wouldn't give them up for all the money in the world. You do clean up after them but that's it. They are very clean and very lovable and all they ask in return is love which they will shower you with. My babies eat veggies, help in the garden, love clover/greens, their baths, etc. I have spoiled them this is true. But when you get a duck/goose hug it's the best feeling in the world! So enjoy them if you are able to. True there is extra work involved but it's so worth it. I even keep mine indoors during winter & at nights in the summer due to the critters in the woods, ( bears, mtn lions, coyotes). But they have a room with bath all to themselves. Please dont get them and put them out because they grew up. That is cruel.

another big thing about geese, less with ducks is; if you pay attention, the goose is opening it's mouth slightly. it's panting, that's because it's stressed out and scared. a lot of people think of geese as mean scary animals, but when you raise it as a baby it actually gets really attached to you and basically acts like a giant baby for the rest of it's life, they love following their owners around at any age and they like being held and cuddled with. they have a hard time with stress and new things, and can get really scared. domesticated geese that have been taken good care of and held a lot and given love grow up to be really soft and fragile and don't like new things or travelling or leaving their owners or meeting new people or animals, so that's also an important thing for any new goose owners to know. (and while they don't like most new animals or people, if it's another goose they'll probably like it.)

People buy them at Easter time, with no idea how to care for them...Sadly many will die or be thrown out at parks where they have no idea how to survive in the wild...

We're going to hatch 6-7 incubated eggs. We have 1.5 acres of land, a beautiful handcrafted coop big enough to hold 20 chickens, fertile, worm and lush grass-filled land. The ducklings will live in a nice home a little smaller than our chicken coop, and a baby pool, big, yet not deep.

RAVIAN 1 I imagine they’re similar to ducks (which I own) in that they pant when they’re “stressed”. Being held and around a stranger can be a bit stressful but for these educational purposes, I feel IMO, worth the brief stress of the bird. So long as it gets water when they’re done, they’ll be perfectly fine and no harm done.

wasn't a whole lot on the lines of "care for a duck or goose" more like where they end up. Perhaps we could use some intel on what to feed them and not to feed them, and a few other hints on helping them fit in with a family.
