Great tips! I repotted mine from the nursery, I didn't get the roots freed as well as you. Is my plant going to be okay? Should I take it out and free the roots better and repot again? Mine is also dripping water, the soil is not damp, can I expect this plant to always be dripping water from its leaves?

Youre fine about the roots. the plant drips water from the leaves when its over watered. it's its way of draining from being over watered

Hi there, Just found your channel while trying to figure which direction to pant colocasia bulbs. 12 just arrived home today. Living in cold climate it is too soon to put them outside but I thought to start them indoors. Well dang if I can figure which end of the bulb is root end which end is top. Love your video and yes those are some roots. Now I want to grow one or three indoors. Will be binge watching your videos to catch up and do hope you keep putting out more. I also love your Mama papa and baby bear plant arrangement. Always trying to not only enjoy my plants but to decorate and make them look interesting.
@plantrelated73224 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Chris! So kind of you. Best of luck with your bulbs! I've never personally started colocasia from bulbs, but the best direction to plant the bulbs are with the pointy end faced down.
@shadesofidaho4 жыл бұрын
@@plantrelated7322 Thanks so much for answering. Funny thing is both ends are rounded. I do see some hair like roots? on the bulbs so will plant them down with those facing down. Some one else suggested putting them on their sides because they are kind of long like potatoes.?? Need to do tis soon.
@moniqueatterbury94824 жыл бұрын
@@shadesofidaho You can simply place them on their sides and cover with soil. I've grown 7 colocasias from tubers that way and each one were successful.

@@moniqueatterbury9482 Oh Great. Thank you. Guess it is getting close to time to get them going. Was going to do pots. Thinking 8 inch. Not positive I have enough potting soil an issue so many of us planty people are facing right now. :( I suppose I could plant them shallow and when I can get potting soil again and who knows when that will be. I could then lift the plants out as a whole and add more porring soil under them. These are ot the great big ones. I thought they were whe I was buying them then researched more and they stay small. I am fine with that too. Thanks again.
@moniqueatterbury94824 жыл бұрын
@@shadesofidaho happy planting! I rooted mine in very small pots until they showed signs of new growth. I sometimes prefer using smaller planters, as I feel like I have more control over the moisture retention in the soil. Enjoy your colocasias!

Shouldn’t be a problem. If you’re seeing the actual roots stick out then just add another layer of soil on top

Hi, I got mine a few weeks ago single leafed and a new leaf about to come out, the offer lead got droopy and died, the new leaf is on the same path, could it be I underwatered it?
@plantrelated73224 жыл бұрын
It’s possible. I would first feel the soil. if it’s staying damp between waterings id wait longer between them. If the soil is getting completely dry then I’d water more often. It’s also possible that it’s just in shock if it’s really new. Just keep an eye on the soil and make sure it’s getting enough light!

Could anyone tell me Why when my elephant ear gets a new leaf a existing leaf dies off. My plant still only has 3 leaves. I once again have a new leaf coming up an one dying off please help
@plantrelated73224 жыл бұрын
These plants are so quick to do this! If they’re in any sort of situation where they may be a little stressed they’ll drop a leaf as soon as a new one grows. Some things to keep in mind is temperature, don’t like to be too cold, not enough sun, or over watering. If you’ve been watering once a week, cut down to every 10 days or so. I wouldn’t worry too much about it though. This is a plant that does this pretty easily, but will grow as fast as it drops leaves. PS. With winter months coming up you may see it be more dormant with its growth. Don’t be alarmed it’ll pop right back in the spring.

Do you think your plant was incorrectly labelled? The way the leaves are more held upwards on most of the petioles of your plant rather than as Colocasia is usually, outward facing, leaves pointing to the ground. Perhaps it has been grown in close proximity to other plants and that's the reason the leaves are held pointing more skywards, held high similar to Alocasia. Apparently from salubrious beginnings has emerged the big leaved plant I see on my screen so, you've therefore certainly gained a handsomely strong specimen. It would be of interest you making a follow up vlog or two in the near future to see your plant reveal. Always when I see these super big Aroids I immediately have a ..want right now ! feeling. At this moment I must possess none other than the very Plant you have.

My nursery told me they like to be watered every day
@plantrelated73224 жыл бұрын
It'll depend on the environment. If you're going to have it in a full sun area and/or outdoors I would agree to water it every day. Mines in a little corner in my apartment that gets almost no direct light, but pretty good indirect light. There it only has to be watered every 3 days or so and even less in the winter! Best of luck with yours.

No no not a little moist they have to stay completely hydrated constantly moist and you can't just have typical soil that has to be organic daylight constant light not extreme light like 100° More so of 70-90°
