The first time I heard the song Kung Fu Fighting by Carl Douglas was on my very first liberty in the Philippines on Tuesday the 26th. of November, 1974. I was in the Navy on my first Westpac Cruise, and it was my first time in Subic Bay and the Philippines. It was the beginning of dating women from the Philippines, the past 40 years I have dated 9 Filipina women, I was married to one Of them 31 years. 1/16/1975 I met my late wife in the Philippines, we got married 4/5/1979 we stayed married till she passed away On 3/6/2010.

+Christopher O'Rourke My dad was in Westpac during the late 70's-1980's until his retirement from the Navy in 1990, he's only one Philippine, wife who he met in 1985, and in the beginning of August of 1987 had me and, my sister didn't come until 1989, he still has only one woman, and he will forever love her, but as went we traveled until we got to Elizabeth Indiana, try putting in on the dart board, which isn't hard, since a Horseshoe Casino is located there, which the woman my father married in 1985, and became my mom is working there. My sister worked there once until they decided to give my sister one of two choices move to Vegas, or the buffet, but she chose the third option, and went to work as vice manager for a trucking firm, but besides that, I am here to say that they stayed married for thirty something years, and is still strong today, I don't have anyone, just a close friend who happens to be casher for the Fort Knox Commissary, but she's just as good to me as any girlfriend.

Sorry for your loss. Were you ever stationed in the Philippines during your time in the Navy or just stopped over during deployments? I was in the Navy too but on the East Coast.
@christopherorourke63627 жыл бұрын
Hazmat Fire Guy, I made 3 Westpac cruises, my first one was from 10/18/1975 to 5/21/1975-I met my late wife there in Olongapo City on 1/16/1975-exactly 42 years ago. I was on the USS Blue Ridge LCC-19 then. I was stationed there at the Ship Repair Facility Subic Bay from 11/20/1978 to 3/30/1981, that was the best tour of duty I ever had in the Navy. I did two more Westpac cruises from 10/18/1984 to 4/26/1985 & from 6/18/1986 to 12/19/1986 on the USS Tarawa LHA-1. During my 3 Westpac cruises I was in Manila twice & Subic Bay 12 times.

Wow, you must have known your way around those places after visiting them as much as you did. Did you visit Guam at all? I was there in 2011 while on a deployment with the Air National Guard. Did you stay in the Navy long enough to retire?

I'm a young 67 yr. old, a hard rocker since the 60's and still dig hard rock more than anything. In1974 when this first came out, I had just been booted out of my frosh year of college (nah....let's not go there now) and fully remember driving on I-10 near my hometown of Tucson, Arizona....and even with cheapo-speakers in my car I heard this tune's heavy bass line and MAN....I WAS HOOKED! This was the very beginning of the "disco" era....and songs like this....with the flutes and flighty-horns in the background were coming at America from every which way. I loathed most of them, but this one won my heart.....hence I'm cranking it up loudly tonight with headphones on, as my beautiful bride of 44 years sleeps upstairs. This song def. holds up....even almost 50 years later, wouldn't you agree?? Turn up that bass, baby!! God Bless us all. jbeinarizona

My shipmates and I met these beautiful Japanese girls on New Year's Eve 1992 in Yokosuka, Japan, and we all drove to a Karaoke bar where I sang this damn song right after midnight!!! The place went nuts! 😂 That was one of the best night's of my life in the Navy! Arigato, Japan! 🇯🇵😁

@@DevilDogDen1775 You are a very Lucky person...Jeet Kun Do for sure ...but what he was trying to say is that it was Bruce Lee that influenced Martial Arts into the American Culture....." If a man lives to be a thousand years old and on the last day of his life he defeats his demons....His life was a success* my favorite line from Bruce Lee....my life is now a Victory! Eric Underwood class of 81 Downey High School California....you are so lucky! Ya know when I was young my big brother used to kick my ass all the time ..when I say big I mean big....in eleventh grade he was 6-4. 257.... Anyway I used to body surf too...and the way I would escape my Brother just like a pounding wave .... become water....and flow....I could get my big brother on his back used to piss him off and I'd take off running; LOL

Great.u probably know that of all Bruce' s films, Enter the Dragon was the one film he was really proud of.had he lived, Game of Death would have been great too, kinda like Michael Jackson's Thriller, which spawned hundreds of wanna b's, imitators, etc.ypu know the rest.

I remember when this song came out👍. The stores couldn't keep this 45 on the shelf! You were lucky to have this record. I would walk into the store (Gibson's) and they knew what I came to ask for. I had asked so often for it the sales lady brought me her son's from his collection. She said he quit listening to it and told me to enjoy it🤗. I will never forget her kind gesture ♥️. A month later her son was in the store and she told him I was the one she gave the record to. He was several years older than me. He smiled at me and said come over to his house and pick out some others I would like to have. Back then if you worked at a store you were able to get first shot at anything that came into the door. He would tell his mom what he wanted and she would secure it for him to buy.
