Carl Hester And Brioso Intermediare 1 Freestyle Scores 78.5%

One Friday we like to dance here are Dressage Hub so we are mixing it up today with one of Carl Hesters up and coming mounts Brioso. With a super fun fast past and modern freestyle Carl Hester is merging the world of dance and techno with dressage, and having a little fun in the dressage ring, if I might add. It's Friday so get up and dance, or sit down and watch Carl Hester and Brioso dance in the intermediare 1 freestyle... cuz that's ok too!

Too careful, for good reason no doubt but the horse needs to be able/allowed/asked to stretch the frame/topline over and up in the extended trot into giving hands, open fingers rather than being pushed into those softly fixed hands and shorter rein because the only things extending are the legs and at a speed that breaks her whole truly lovely way of going, the all important rhythm*. We want the whole horse ideally reaching up in to that, covering ground by extension rather than speed. Think jumbo jet at point of take off. Sure the danger is she breaks out into a disjointed canter and leaps straight out the arena but it will still be a job well done IMO. [Half halts* go for height rather than flash cause thats what he does best. Non?] Those wavy Brentina's are horribly distracting for the the judges.....Brioso wont ever have the best passage, quite old fashioned movement more under but still certainly up, more than makes up for any short comings by the way she dances. I simply adore this horses rhythm, swing. She does truly dance and wants to dance even at the collected walk LOL. I love the way Carl takes you on a journey in his tests, always more than just a test, still seminal today and in more ways than one. Far as the softness and swing goes it does most urgently still need championing and rewarding at all levels so I'm happy with this score as I bet he was. Do we need to see stiff marching machines, knees up in the air, tense rigidly hollow backs. Really we don't, the days of the war horse are over. Now is the time to dance, for the horse at least, they have more than paid their dues in blood and pain. No more, no more. Tension must be nuanced to give the impression of effortlessness and when needed rather than the entire way of being.
