Ahh yes, my favorite performance of this song. Off the documentary Johnny Cash: The Man, His World, His Music. I also really loved Ring of Fire and The Ballad of Ira Hayes.

At a Johnny Cash show at either Folsom or San Quentin Prison sometime in the late 60s.

@@moviemagg This was taken in August of 1968 in Arkansas. So neither of those. There isn't any footage from Folsom

@@kadeberrier3799 How do you know that it was shot in Arkansas and not at one of Cash's prison shows.....

Weird hokey high speed country version, sung really fast and another verse is added, still making it a much shorter version than the original. Looks like a quick appearance cash deal off to the liquor store straight after kind of performance

You have to remember that when Carl toured with Cash's band he was hired as filler to take up the slack and open the show and to fill in here and there. If Sam Philips had released Honey Don't and then Put Your Cat Clothes On as A-Sides after Blue Suede Shoes then Carl would have ended up as a much bigger artist and never woud have found himself having to play in Cash's band for 10-years just to survive. Those two songs for sure would have been top ten hits on the Pop Charts along with Blue Suede Shoes. But Honey Don't was wasted as a B-Side and the other one never saw the light of day. Gone Gone Gone, Perkins Wiggle and Tennessee should have been A-Side single releases as well and would have all been top ten hits on the Country Charts as well. All of this would have made a Carl giant in the music business coming out of the 1950s.

Carl should have played at Woodstock in the summer of 69. Now that would have really been something special.....
